ESEA CS:S Invite Rankings - Week 5; Written by Heather "sapphiRe" Mumm #1 - X3O (10-0) Previous rank: #1 X3O has once again impressed, this time on de_contra. The team had two rather exceptional wins on the map, first defeating Netcode Illuminati with a score of 16-8 and then topping Eximius Sports by a final 16-9 score. As usual, it was evident the team put in the necessary preparations heading into these match-ups. In both matches, X3O performed quite well offensively. While I wouldn't say X3O is untouchable, they are clearly a a large step ahead of the competition this season. With Vitriolic on deck for Week 6, X3O's win streak is surely threatened though I wouldn't be at all surprised to see the team finish off the week with a 12-0 record. Week 6 Opponents 6:1 - Forfeit Win 6:2 - X3O vs. Vitriolic #2 - SitA (6-3) Previous rank: #4 SitA has only completed one of two Week 5 matches thus far. That one match was a 16-10 win on de_contra over Eximius Sports. In that match, SitA played what I like to refer to as textbook Counter-Strike. The team properly executed fakes on T-side and communicated effectively in small game situations. The team had a few slip-ups on T-side, giving Eximius access to the bombsites a bit too often, but overall, SitA controlled the pace of the match. SitA has one more match to complete on de_contra against Area 51 CSS, though I don't see them having much trouble beating the current last place team. Week 6 Opponents 6:1 - SitA vs. Vitriolic 6:2 - SitA vs. Team Dynamic #3 - Vitriolic (7-2) Previous rank: #3 Vitriolic remains in the number three position this week because the team has yet to see action in Week 5. The team's only score from the week is a forfeit win thanks to rSports. Vitriolic's Week 5 match against Netcode Illuminati is scheduled for this coming Tuesday. When these two teams last faced off, Vitriolic came out on top 16-12, with a very impressive offensive performance on de_nuke. Though Vitriolic's starting line-up is slightly different this time around, it should once again be a close match between these two seasoned teams. Week 6 Opponents 6:1 - Vitriolic vs. SitA 6:2 - Vitriolic vs. X3O #4 - Team Dynamic (5-5) Previous rank: #5 In addition to a forfeit win, Team Dynamic finally achieved a .500 record this season with an enormous 16-4 victory over Area 51 CSS. Team Dynamic is now seeing the positive results from their recent addition of Glockateer to the starting line-up. Glockateer dominated Dynamic with a 27-9 Frag/Death ratio. After an impressive 11-4 start in the first half, Dynamic blanked Area 51 in the second half to quickly pick up the victory. While Dynamic's 16-4 win was the largest win of the week for Invite teams, they only gained one spot for being the last place team. With SitA coming up on the schedule for Week 6, Dynamic has the opportunity to gain some much needed ground in the standings. Week 6 Opponents 6:1 - Team Dynamic vs. Eximius Sports 6:2 - Team Dynamic vs. SitA #5 - Netcode Illuminati (5-4) Previous rank: #2 Like SitA ranked above them, Netcode Illuminati has only completed one of two de_contra matches thus far. Though Netcode has dropped in the rankings because their one match was a 16-8 loss to X3O. Netcode has revamped their roster to include freakazoid (from last season's CS:S-Open champion team) and ladiesgaga (aka p0s). Going head to head with the number one team and a new line-up now in hindsight doesn't look like the best decision. Last time these two teams faced off, the results were much closer (16-13 in favor of X3O). Still, the line-up as much potential and I wouldn't be surprised to see Netcode give Vitriolic a good run in the team's second de_contra match. Week 6 Opponents 6:1 - Netcode Illuminati vs. Area 51 CSS 6:2 - Forfeit Win #6 - Eximius Sports (2-8) Previous rank: #6 Eximius Sports took on two of the top three teams in Week 5 and needless to say, the results were as expected. SitA topped Eximius 16-10 while X3O defeated Eximius 16-9. The team just couldn't seem to grab hold of any momentum. Moreover, both SitA and X3O generally out-played Eximius in small game situations. The team's 2-7-1 record isn't entirely accurate as they have yet to finish out a match against Vitriolic that ended with a 7-8 score and the match on de_season against Netcode Illuminati needs played still. Nonetheless, Eximius has a lot of catching up to do if they wish to make it to the LAN playoffs. Week 6 Opponents 6:1 - Eximius Sports vs. Team Dynamic 6:2 - Eximius Sports vs. Area 51 CSS #7 - Area 51 CSS (1-8) Previous rank: #7 While I haven't manually calculated it, realistically, it is the end of the road for Area 51 CSS. Based on their most recent performances, I don't see how this team will be able to achieve a record worthy of earning a playoff berth. Area 51's latest defeat came at the hands of Team Dynamic. The team picked up a few rounds here and there in the first half on T-side of de_season, but the second half was all Dynamic. Area 51 lost the match by a final score of 16-4. The players on this team are by no means severely under-skilled as all have years of experience at the Invite level. Still, something just doesn't seem to be clicking for this team. The team could pull a few out a few upsets in the coming weeks, but it won't be enough to crack the top four.
