This is a small guide on how to connect to scrimdod for the first time. Its the first of many guides for new players. See post: http://www.gotfrag.com/dod/forums/thread/.. for more details.
4) Find "IceChat 7.60 (Full Install)" and click the [Download] button just below it(this will download the install file)
5) Run the executable that you just downloaded.
6) Once you have downloaded the setup file (Most likely called icechat-setup.exe) run the setup. It is very straight forward. You may be required to reboot your computer, and it is strongly suggested that you do, so that all DLL''s are properly initialized.(note: I recommend unchecking emoticons because they are annoying, but thats just me)
7) Start IceChat. When you start IceChat for the first time, it will notice that you do not have any configuration files, so a small program called "IceChat First Time Setup" will run, and ask for some very basic information.
a) It will first ask for a default nickname. By default, a value of "Guest_xxx" is placed in the box, but it is suggested that you place your own nickname there. Dont use any spaces in your nickname. Click on the ">" button at the bottom right corner to go to the next page.
8) Before connecting to the server we will need to check your email for the account that you setup in step one. you should see an email "GameSurge Account Registration" and you should see a line that looks like this: '/authserv auth username password' keep this window open and go back to icechat.
9) On the left you should see favorite servers with 'irc.us.gamesurge.net' at the top. Right click this and go to "edit server..."
10) Left hand side of the popup window is options, find 'AutoPerform" and click it.
11) Put a check mark in 'Enable AutoPerform List'
12) copy(ctrl+c) and paste(ctrl+v) the '/authserv auth username password' email in the text box above 'Enable Autoperform List'(without the 's)
13) underneath it type '/join #dod-gopro' hit enter and type '/join #nogo' hit enter again and type '/join #scrimdod'
14) click [save]
15) Under favorite servers double click 'irc.us.gamesurge.net' and watch as you connect to irc for the first of many times!
recommended step: I don't like the program flashing every time someone says something so go to: view then display settings then uncheck the 3rd and 4th checkboxes and save.
To the Left is the Favorite Server List ( with open/close options ). This is where you can keep a list of the Favorite IRC Servers that you visit. To connect to a server, you select the one in the list, and hit the connect button. In the Console Window will then show a new Tab, for the IRC Server, and you are on your way. Each server in the list maintains its own seperate settings for Nick, etc. To change any settings, select the server, and click the Edit Button.
To the Right is the Nicklist ( with open/close options ). This will show what nicknames are in the current channel, if the current window is a channel. If it is the Console, a Private Chat (Query), or a DCC Window, it will be blank.
The Main window you start off with is the Console. This is where you will see the majority of messages come in. By default, it shows what version of IceChat you are using, some information about the Web Site, and email, and will show if you have any IceChat Script files loaded (Or No Script Files loaded by default)
At the bottom, where the Smiley face and ? is, this is the box where you do all your typing. All IRC commands, or any other messages, all are typed into this single box. Each window does not contain its own inputbox, there is only 1 for all windows. Use the Up/Down arrow to scroll through previously typed commands, or use double click on space where you typing for history box.
Yes well now you can post this thread in pubs and get them to join irc for the first time. My intention is to make it as easy as possible to go from pubstar to competitive player.

Yeah spitfire if you or anyone else wants to help I still need a guides on the following: * signing up for gotfrag and creating a recruit thread. * get cal legal * install and use a vent(would like to get a gopro vent going but this isn't to important * joining 12mans/ringing (rules and caution that they will be called bad and will be kicked for better/more known players and that if they do good they will be labeled as a cheater)

#25 this has already been addressed. The problem with mirc is that despite you having stolen it, it is not free. I can't post on how to pirate software(even if I haven't paid for software since buying dod) because its not only against forum rules(see a1) but it is also illegal. I wanted a LEGAl and FREE program that I could walk new players through. Anyways I will be working on a new guide today most likely a 12man+ringer+recruit thread. I was pubbing and posted this link and a guy mentioned that he got rolled in cal this week, so I said he should 12man and ring more often and he had no idea what I was talking about.

Take that /join #nogo out of your thread, and then sticky this. I encourage shane's attempt to help the community grow, I don't think that people actually take any time trying to promote league play when they "kill pubs".
Other than this being a lame attempt to get more idlers in his own channel, this is a GREAT idea.
Anyways I did that because scrimdod is +r and it always takes me 2 or 3 channels to get registered with nickserv. Should I change it to /j #scrim_dod ?
