Pretty much any time you open up the DoD Forums you can expect to find vast amounts of immaturity, name calling, flaming, what have you. I don't know if you guys realize this or not, but we have public forums that anyone can come on here and read.
Anytime we are seeking sponsors for any events or teams, most times the potential sponsors are directed towards the forums as this is our only reference point to valuable information such as team lists or if people are booking plane tickets and hotel rooms, things like that.
When a potential sponsor logs on and then sees negative comments about how the lan center might steal your money, or how people aren't going to travel there, it's a waste of time, or how you think it's going to be sh!tty, it doesn't look good and can cause us to lose a lot of money and prizes.
If you're attending the lan and have a problem with something then PM the person organizing it, in this case me. Let them know what problems / issues you have. Don't troll the forums and inject your negativities into random threads trying to look cool or get your point across, it doesn't help anyone.
If you're not attending, you don't have more reason to talk trash about the event. Odds are you love this game just as much as everyone else, but you can't make it because it's far away, or you don't have money at the time. It doesn't mean there won't be more events, or possibly one closer to where you live in the future.
That is, as long as we can keep holding events and making them successful. We're basically shooting ourselves in the foot every time someone comes on here and talks trash about any event we're having or our game in general. I know it's going to be impossible, but we as a community need to grow up and not be so near sighted. Gaming as a "sport" right now is in it's infancy, but if gaming as a whole keeps having successful events we can help our overall community grow.
We have already lost close to $2,000 that could have went toward this events prize pot. So those of you that keep complaining about the lack of $ or how you won't win enough to count for anything, pat yourselves on the back.
IMO, if a potential sponsor tells you $2.000 is too much money because of trash talk on a forum or that they are dropping their $2.000 sponsorship because they didn't like the team lists, you are probably better off w/o that sponsor.
we should have moderators on the dod forum that nuke the negative comments, instead of the comments they dont like becuz they're negative towards them. eh hem eman. like #3 just nuke it nobody cares if you think the game is dead, its obviously not if people are showing up to play at a lan
Situation as I see it: You believe Day of Defeat is dead. You either a) truly believe so or b) are saying this just because of what Matt posted. Either way, you care enough to take a whopping 30 seconds out of your life to post on an internet forum about said game. Chances are you won't be the only person to post that in this thread, so this applies to all the others:
Please shut up and leave.
Any who, sucks to hear that Matt, I'm not sure why people doubted a lan that had way more planning, more sponsors (w2z had none actually), more teams, and more dedicated teams than w2z 2007.
this is a public forum in which people can say what they want. I do not condone these people's actions however it is quite retarted that a sponsor would go by what people are saying on a forum.
IF they pulled out because of trash talk and team lists, which by the way I find hard to believe, the $2.000 was no more real than the unicorn they were going to fly in on and deliver the check.
There are no more Gotfrag forum mods anymore. Everyone is suppose to be using the frag system to aid in the moderation. e`man does still has his access, which he shouldn't have had to begin with, but he only uses it for his advantage so good luck trying to get him to do some actual moderation in here. Omar does have access to moderate the forums as well, but anything he were to do would just p|ss e`man off and would be revoked, so Omar doesn't even waste his time.
So how does this post help anything? I know you want to encourage people to be a little less of a giant group of dildo's but i dont see this helping.
I mean yea, they see the crap talking, but i dont think them seeing a post saying "hey guys behave for a few days so we can get this money" is going to exactly set them into the mood to sponsor the tourney. If there pulling that as an excuse to withdraw sponsorship from the LAN its not the forum behavior that is effecting the choice, its other variables. how many teams signed up? how many prepaid? those are of more interest to the potential sponsor than this forum.
"Nothing is faster than unpro." wow, sloganizer knows what the ladies say..
No, cpl added it to one of their 06 tournaments but I remember the prizes being god awful which led to a big forum bash where Angel Munoz got torn apart by a few people. Was quite the read
