Osgood is a two time cup winner and currently leads the playoffs in gaa. Detroit has the likes of lidstrom (6 norris trophies), rafalski, chelios, kronwall, ect on the blue line. That's not even mentioning the 2 selke candidates in zet and dat. Detroit also had the least goals against all season and won the presidents trophy. That's just defensively. On offense franzen (who I'm assuming will return for game 1) has been an absolute beast(27 goals in the last 27 games). Detroit's blue line chips in all the time offensively, significantly more than the penquins. That's not even mentioning the offensive firepower of dat/zet (who are just as skilled as the duo in pitts they just aren't hyped like crazy) with holmstrom constantly getting in the head of the goal tender. The best sign I've seen is role players like drapes, drake, huddler stepping it up. This team, although not as skilled or as beloved as the 2002 team, has by far been hotter and more dominant. They have shown me everything I've needed to see compared to previous years they have won the cup.
Expirence, talent (in net and defensivly, it's pretty equal in terms of offensive talent), and veteran leadership are all in Detroits favor. You will not beat detroit at it's own game...puck pocession.
Maybe next year for pitt, but "you have to lose before you can learn to win"
RedWings in 6. I think wings will take 2-0, then pens will take 1, then wings another for 3, pens 1 more then wings for cup. Anyway Osgood has two cups he has been here before. Marc-Andre is new to this. It will take him time to be top notch. You Gotta lose some to win some.
#9, except goals against average is well an average. The two games would have no effect. Now if we were talking about total goals allowed yes....but not gaa...
i am not going to throw out numbers for goaltenders or talk about the "weak" teams they played to get to the cup. i am more interested in watching good hockey. i think it will take at least six games to decide the outcome since these teams should match up well. i would predict three games are won by one goal.
pens and wings is going to be a great series, both teams a pretty equal throughout, although the pens have a good checking line, that can consistantly come up with huge goals, but if dat and zet turn it up, its going to be a great series. my prediction is pens in 6. because i think the pens can take all the games at home, considering we have been the best home team since january, and we havent lost a game at home since february. so if we can snag one in detriot, i think pens in 6
Penguins vs Red Wings
(legitimate predictions please. Not just because you like or dislike a team)
(Im hoping its the pens who win)
