looking at the contracts you're giving out right now, I, for one, am really glad you had a strike, it was obviously necessary to get the salaries down, for that one season.
I know having money and success is kind of a new thing, but the goal of Free Agency is to SIGN PLAYERS and not let the whole team that went to the stanley cup finals leave.
as huge as one can be before getting benched for a 20-year-old. i love what he did with the caps, but he has yet to do that consistently over an extended period of time. and he's quickly leaving his prime...
defiance i'd feel more guilty about saying this if i didnt hate the pens, but i think your glory days of playing with superstars whose entry level contracts stay cheap are over. $17million for 2 players handcuffs an organization pretty bad. or so i can hope.
it isnt just any 20 year old, carey price is a superstar in the making, hes just about as technically sound as they come and hes gonna have a great career ahead of him barring any serious injuries. Its also a cap move, if you can sign a great goaltender for that little you can load up on fowards or d-men instead of having to pay a goalie 4-5-6 or 7 million a season.
OMFG DUDE we got Hossa!!!!!! I think I have died and gone to heaven.....The cup stays in hockeytown
Smart move to only sign him for 1 year. We need the cap room to lock in zet and franzen long term when they are free agents next summer.
and as for the salary cap at 56 million. Most teams besides the big spenders (det/ny ect) weren't spending more that before the lockout. It really does seem like the strike was for nothing now.....besides maybe the revenue sharing and the cap being linked to the league revenue.
but the point is that a goalie doesn't get benched unless there is something off with his game, potential superstar behind him or not. and after the philly series that exposed price's flimsy rubber glove hand and his easily attainable clinical depression, he might not pan out like everyone hoped.
pittsburg still have crosby and malkin so i wouldnt be counting them out so quickly
as for Price/Huet, that move was purely a cap move gainey even said it. Huet was a free agent after this season and he was asking for too much(like 4-5 mil), when you have a guy in the wings with the talent that price has you can afford to let a Huet go that easily. Keep in mind Price is only like 20 years old ish, this guy is gonna be great and i could only wish my ottawa sens had a goalie as good as him -_-
Rangers just got a lot better (by adding Zherdev, not Redden). Pittsburgh is losing a whole hell of a lot, though there is no way in hell Malone is worth the money. Theodore for Huet is a step in the wrong direction for Washington, even by saving a few million. And the Flyers have done... diddly pooh. I guess Ossi Vaananen is something. Atlantic Division will be interesting next year.
Oh, and LOL @ Toronto. Never cease to amaze every other team in the league with your stupidity. 3.5 million for FINGER?!
Oh, and what Detroit did with Hossa is just plain unfair. The only way I see the cup leaving Detroit is if Osgood begins to show some holes with his age and Conklin doesn't work out. But I don't really see that happening...
That's what happens when your team has tradition and class. People want to come their to win and be a part of it. Holland is a genious and the Red wings have some of the best management/owners in all of sports.
dear nhl
Dear NY rangers,
Thank you for giving Redden 6.5 per, because he totally deserves that much money after his tremendous season last year.
you still suck. time for some FINGER-banging.
could be interesting to see how Atlanta gets to the salary floor because right now they're not even close...
Glad the Sharks let go of campbell, though I hope we can make some nice acquisitions instead of just relying on trades :\.

WE GOT RUUTU THO :(
also here are price's stats from last year
24 12 3 0.920
pretty good stats for a rookie

If the Rangers can sign Jagr, Sudin, and Shanahan then they should be favored to come out of the east.
and #23 the last thing people who are making multimillion dollar contracts need to worry about is gas money.....
