The home run derby is not what it once was. It use to be about the best of the best competing against each other. Does anyone remember the home run derby as Fenway back in 1999? Probably the greatest one of all time.
I know there are no longer the juiced up players that there once were but baseball still has people like Ryan Howard, Jason Giambi, Mark Teixeira, Travis Hafner (although injured), Adam Dunn, and a few other just huge body people. These players are the ones people wanna see. People who may not hit as many homeruns likle Ryan Braun because they are going full out on every swing trying to hit it 500 feet.
ill be at the homerun derby (section 242 row 3) and the all star game (section 116 4th row)... anyone going to be there and be tailgating lol!??! this will be an "epic" event... final all-star game ever at the stadium...
in other news, i get to miss it all due to me going out to sea AGAIN for a month after i just got back from my second deployment in ONE year. Love life.
#6 The only reason the NL is so inferior to the AL now is purely because AL teams on average have much higher payrolls.
If you ask me, the MLB needs to have a salary cap for all teams, just like the NFL and NBA. That will create parity. As things are now, the smaller-market cities are always at a disadvantage to the big-market cities, and that's really just unfair, plain and simple.
(and it just so happens that the NL has a larger share of smaller-market cities than the AL)
