so, just so you guys know, this a map for source and it is a direct port of dod_anzio from 1.3. I wasn't too happy with dods for the most part, nor was I happy with their "source" version of the default maps. This map is a complete and accurate remake of 1.3 anzio as it was decompiled in HL1, then ported to source.
So I'm sure no one will care at all, but for those of you who are curious or at least want to see what 1.3 anzio might look like in source, well here is your chance. Also, the best part about this map is that it is incredibly wallable! Every known spam spot in 1.3 is in this map as well. I figured since this forum is 1.3, that some one who mistakenly installed dods can enjoy a classic map. Enjoy!
if only they didnt mess the game up, if the maps were like this and the physics felt the same this game would be kililng it dead right now. nice remake
The biggest problem with source is the game engine has too much of a different feel to it. Even if all the maps were identical, and all the damage amounts and accuracy and everything else was the same. The engine just makes it feel not right.
#13 I was thinking myself of trying to get a team together and just create our "own" dod which is based more off 1.3 but using source engine. I'd really like to see the return of promod, or atleast get a hold of the code so I can continue working on it.
looks good, i always hated the source version, no one will flock to a promod though, too bad this game really started to die the day source game out, i miss it
I wouldn't mind playing source just to play this map. I haven't really played source at all but I kind of like it just because it's something new with an old twist to it.
The community doesn't want 1-shot kars to anything but the chest, which are often blocked by the kevlar gorilla arms, and head, Game. They also don't like more accurate weapons, which was partly why the promod was rejected and RedComet gave up. The Source community, as you already know, is just a huge fail.. and it always has been. But, making a mod that would please part of that community and part of this one would be just as much of a fail.
Oh, and trying to wall someone in the game will just frustrate you, not to mention only clipping someone through door frames and random wooden objects.
sean, you generalize them too much. Sure there are a lot of d*ck wads who don't know any better but I know just as many source players who would like this game to become more like 1.3. The walls are paper thin, so rifles and supports are incredibly deadly through walls in this map, so don't assume anything there. Try it out, you'll be surprised that there are no random objects in the map, everything has a purpose, just like the original.
I'd work on a promod just for fun, to build my portfolio as I'm going into the game industry for my profession. If it failed, big deal, dods already failed and dod is slowly but surely failing as well, so why not try something drastic like releasing a dods mod more like 1.3? I think promod was released with terrible timing, as the dods community was still pretty large and the 1.3 community was still doing LANs so no one really wanted to commit to the new mod. Also it was released prematurely, there were several issues with it that made people think that it was the final product. It's a shame what happened to it, but I feel like promod can still succeed it just needs to be perfect, in a sense.
get over it, stop sound really isn't that big of a deal in source once you get used to it, just learn to play. I recently made a server side mod that gave 1.3 settings to all of the weapons, I even returned the carbine class. Still giving it out to server owners, but hopefully it will be on a couple pub servers for you guys to try.
If source was 1.3 with better graphics, like it was supposed to be when I purchased HL2 (version rizzo had at cpl 05 i think), I'd play it. Valve took a good thing and ruined it.
I felt the same way #31, but it made me better by forcing me to use my eyes over my ears. #32 if you still have dods installed, I'll give you an IP to some servers running the new 1.3 mod and see what you think.
Also the map is not identical, it's exactly the same. I ported it from the hl1 engine to source, so there isn't any scaling or any weird source things going on. The strange thing is, I have a hammer file with both 1.3 anzio and source anzio in the same map file (a friend of mine made this for me) and they are actually dead on the same. They are the same size and have similar angles, main difference is the source anzio is 'sourced' thus making it not as good.

I would start playing source again but those source kids try way too hard and they will cry because they're now limited to less corners to prone in.
Now on to fix the game! :P

Too bad source is still source.

Map looks identical though, nice job.
