The cow is dead or unconscious though, it's really not as bad as it looks. They shoot it in the head at the start either with an air gun or an electric bolt so it's either dead or can't feel anything while it dies.
aether you know the crazy killer in No Country For Old Men? that's what they normally use. although it sounds to me like it would be fine i've met several people that have said after touring a slaughter house that they would never eat meat again. so i dunno.

That's an air gun in No Country for Old Men. It's really called a bolt gun, but they usually fire with compressed air.
Go to #9 if you want to see a slaughter house, heh. I don't find it disturbing, that's pretty much the best possible way to die, obviously some people would be pretty traumatized by it though.
