Day Of Defeat: CEVO DoD changes

By: Chris Cloutier - Published August 15, 2006 at 7:03 PM EDT - Writer Archive
CEVO has announced new event format for DoD due to light registration.
Day of Defeat Community

The core among you have been greatly supportive of the CEVO effort to host a DoD event. It is your continued hard work and dedication that keeps us committed to proceeding with an event of some kind. However, we currently stand only 5 days away from the closing of team registration (Aug 20) and the sign-ups so far are extremely disappointing. At this time of writing there are only 18 fully registered teams, of which 7 are in the Professional Division.

In light of these circumstances we need to announce changes to the format and structure of the event. It is, as a matter of organizing a functional event, impossible to host an 8-week season format with such a low turnout. Teams inevitably break-up during the season and only the best teams from a larger pool are supposed to make playoffs.

Event Format will be as follows:

50+ Registered Teams
-The event will proceed as originally intended as an 8-week season with two divisions (Amateur and Professional). Teams will be seeded for playoffs based on seasonal performance. Winners of the playoffs will take earn a share of a $5,000 cash prize pot.

Between 33-49 Teams (inclusive)
-The event will proceed with an 8-week season with all teams competing in a single division (Open). Teams will be seeded for playoffs based on seasonal performance. Winners of the playoffs will take earn a share of a $3,500 cash prize pot.

Between 16-32 Teams (inclusive)
-The event will be a straight double-elimination tournament that will run over a two-week period. All players currently registered may request a refund before we proceed with this style of event since it is not the originally expected 8-week season format. Teams will be seeded to the best of our ability, or seeded randomly if no generally fair seeding system can be developed. The winners will earn a share of a $2,000 cash prize pot.

---

We’re sincerely hoping for a rally in sign-ups in these final days of registration because we really do want to hold a successful full-season event with the potential for many in the future. We need your support to do this, please get your teams fully signed-up as soon as possible.
