Day Of Defeat: CAL Season 17 - Week 6 Main Predictions

By: Robert Hull - Published October 29, 2007 at 6:43 PM EST - Writer Archive
Robert “Sp0rk” Hull sits down with Online Thunder’s Tony Compton with special appearance by Trickstuf in the MOTW, and BnG’s Jesse “prop” Lewellyn to discuss the lineup for week 6 of CAL Main on dod_chemille
Legion vs. Nihilism

Robert Hull: Learning to play dod just a year or two ago consisted of a lot of scrims against the very same nihilist team that takes on legion Thursday, and they have some of the best teamwork you could expect from a group of players who have the chemistry of several seasons of dod together. However, they face LGN’s team of online superstars, which should provide more than a challenge on chemille. Watch for Loki’s scoped weaponry to be NihilisM’s biggest problem at factory, with fallen and illusion rifle’s picking away. At underpass, this should be a victory for NihilisM, with ScreaM all but winning the battle. I’m really not sure how this one will turn out, but it’s guaranteed to be a close one

Legion >< NihilisM less than 15 points

Players to watch – Loki, ScreaM

Jesse Lewellyn: With the current activity level of cal dod, the few teams that still play the game will flourish where they normally would just be outplayed, plus its the internet. With that said, Legion rolls into chemille after a substantial win over BnG on solitude due to topnotch hiding and ninja capping. And as everyone knows, chemille isn't exactly a fast, skill dominant map. But that should suit LGN's playstyle quite well. On the other side of the ball comes NihilisT, a fairly old team made up of mostly unknown but solid players. Their record looks pretty decent but after glancing at the cal site, it seems they have more forfeits than even BnG. They just took a tough loss to the strong TAP squad last week and would normally be looking forward to playing this week...if it wasn’t against legion on chemille. Regardless, I believe LGN will take it in a close match over a team that would most likely beat them on a more skill-based map

Legion>NihilisM +25.

Players to watch – Loki, mistadobalina, ScreaM, teamowner

Tony Compton: There really isn’t anything I can say about Legion that hasn’t been said before. From Harry Potter to pubestaches, this team has all the shame with none of the fame. Look for fallen to run around knowing where everyone is, while Dave touches himself in vent listening to the match. Snuggz should also be completely unhittable at underpass, while railroad will be prone just about everywhere. The only decent player on Legion’s roster is Loki, and he takes DoD:S serious so we know he is a huge choch. Nihilism has a little online magic in ScreaM. Letting scream bar kar might keep it close, but this is online day of defeat at its best, so I’m taking Legion’s Jr high heroes over nihilism.

Legion>NihilisM +45

Monster Gaming vs. Skull Gaming

Robert Hull: After their loss to Substandard in week 4, I don’t think skull is going to take any chances against another move-up team. Expect Kellen to really turn it up on a rifle-friendly map dropping 40’s everywhere as Hisey locks down factory alongside mexicant. Underpass will be the less-interesting part of the match, just because factory is going to be a fireworks show. Mogers and scrd will be playing this slow and steady until factory/Kellen gets to puddle and car alley, at which point the full caps will start flowing. On monster’s side, Sean should provide a moderate challenge at underpass and pantera will rifle factory, but I don’t think it’s going to be enough for a skull team looking to make a statement.

Monster Gaming < Skull Gaming +100

Players to watch: riveroyster, Steve “not so scene” Hisey, Sean

Jesse Lewellyn: Once again chemille saves another less skilled team in this one. Monster just got bumped up to main, and they bring a flawless LAN record to the table...because none of them have one. I'd hate to be going underpass as either side, both teams will play it boring and slow unless a one "riveroyster" is forced to go that way. As far as that goes wherever they send Kellen, monster wont have an answer for him. Factory should be a lot less painful to watch, as Chris Rivas and Steve Hisey get nasty. Skull is coming off a surprising loss to NoGo and I'd imagine they have no intentions of losing to the new kids on the block. So yea, get ready to watch mexicant and riv rip faces all over the place and monster counter with proning or even mging since its chemille. The only player I'd bother watching on monster would be darkphantom.

Monster Gaming < Skull Gaming by a couple caps

Players to watch: Mexicant, riveroyster, darkphantom

Tony: Here we have the newcomers to cal main against the veteran team skull. Monster hasn’t really been tested all season in a match, and although skull is fairly inactive, I think they can pull the win here. If they can somehow manage to get kellenoyster, mexicant, and scrd all in the server at the same time without anyone lagging out, they should be fine. Those three really make up the bulk of the frags, and mexicant is very good on chemille. Hisey will be nothing but trouble for austizzle, since this is a match and he will be running the ACS. Watch out for monster’s Marl Fox, or this year’s come out of nowhere, overnight all-star online messiah. Monster will be trying way too hard, especially for a team who is too late to make playoffs!

Monster Gaming < Skull Gaming +35

Players to watch – mexicant, scrd, whomever avatar is ringing as.
