Day Of Defeat: CAL Season 17 - Main Quarter Final Predictions

By: Robert Hull - Published November 28, 2007 at 9:07 PM EST - Writer Archive
Robert “sp0rk” Hull brings in a Gotfrag prediction’s favorite, Online Thunder’s Corey “JaGGoN” Marko and Skull Gaming’s Kellen “riveroyster” Leland for the quarterfinals of Cal-Main on dod_chemille
[#4] That’s a Paddlin’ vs. [#7] NoGo Gaming Faction

Robert: After last week’s match against BnG, TAP is more than ready for NoGo. With Ivan Cheng, Tiacus, and the Ham?stossboss on rifles, with support from Nick Patten, factory should be a real battle off initial, but I don’t think bluerevolver will be able to hold off everyone with help from Andy Sheen, Fluxx (replacing Khoi who furiously LAN-broke his headset) and Dullumis. At underpass, the talents of MissioN and scangus will meet Taylor and nickjansen. This will be close, but I fear that TAP’s factory team will push through to car alley and connector far too fast for hXc and trickstuf to handle. This one goes to the TAP boys.

TAP > NoGo 230 - 120
Players to watch: vasily, bluerevolver

Corey: WELL, I’m just going to sum this one up very quickly: I watched vasily play against NoGo with a far more inferior group of players behind him than he has on TAP while playing his tpg match on chemille this past Sunday. He got more kills in one competitive half of dod_chemille than I’ve ever seen in my life. He’ll do the same this week. It wont matter what NoGo does, how they do it, who plays for them, how many walls they can see through, or how many asians are in the lineup, because Ivan Cheng is a SUPERIOR ASIAN. He is in a league of his very own, and will carry tap to victory.
Ham? Scangus and Tiacus will be very good as well, and Patten will hit some good shots holding factory.

TAP > NoGo by 153-1,000,000,000
Players to watch: vasily And maybe hxc, since this isn’t a LAN event.

Kellen: This one is going to be a blowout. TAP has some of the best teamwork and chemistry in DOD, and flat out better players. Ivan will kill everything, and Madison will clean up behind him. NoGo is going to have to pull something out of their ass to keep this one close.

TAP > NoGo by A LOT
Players to watch: Madison, Ivan, Bluerevolver

[#3] Online Thunder vs. [#6] Nothing 2 Prove

Robert: The boys of n2p, formally monster, are coming off the biggest upset of the season, a win over last season’s Open-Omega champs, LATELATELATE, handing the vets their first and only loss of the regular season. Thunder took down Skull Gaming in their last match of the season, and has played many a tpg match against this team. The only differences are big ones, both team’s star players are cal-banned, Thunder with the Marko brothers and n2p with avatar. Look for Tony Compton and Toxinator along with Rebirth to help Alanboxmonster hold factory against Pantera, hitman47, and Darkphantom backed up by Austizzle. Underpass is arn and sik vs. seaN and rNg, and won’t probably have near as many fireworks as factory, although still a critical area. Sik had a really good match against skull; hopefully he’s still got something left to help his team into the semifinals. I’m pulling for my thunder boys, but I’m not sure they’ll be prepared unlike monster, which will be scrimming more than enough as they usually do.

Thunder < n2p by a cap-cap and a half
Players to watch: Alan, sik, Pantera

Corey: Well, this is definitely the match of the week. We have my teammates in online thunder up against the big story in a world of awful meaningless stupid stories, monster gaming, who upset LATELATELATE ending their (this is just a rough estimate) 29 match winning streak in cal. maybe not 29 in a row, i think it was like 29-1 in their last 30 or something, anyways, I played monster in tpg on this map earlier in the season. We lost by 13 I believe. Avatar was cheating blatantly (what’s new?) and was the main reason why they were able to come out on top. Monster gets overly aggressive on their pushes into wood room and radio on underpass side, getting bunched up and allowing the opposing team to take full control of that whole side of the map. Toxinator did not play in that tpg match, and he will make a HUGE difference for thunder with his very routine perfect nades that he throws on chemille. Alan Williams will fr4g h4rd with a sniper rifle. Pantera will run around shooting a lot of people, and hitman will jump EXTREMELY HIGH IN THE AIR! Anyways, this will be a battle of who wins all of the one on one matchups. Pound for pound, id say these two teams are quite even at all classes, with the advantage to thunder at sniper and the advantage to monster n the heavies with rNg's flawless recoil. So, its all about who is hot on this night. Monster is riding quite high after their win vs. late, but I believe that Jared "toxinator" Mundy and Tony Compton will do absolutely ANYTHING to beat monster.

Thunder > Monster by less than 20
Players to watch: Toxinator's nades, arn on allies, Alan Williams, pantera, Tony Compton if he kars. And rNg

Kellen: This one is a great match-up, a former magical online team (Thunder) versus the newest online sensation (Monster). Thunder wishes they could have JaGGoN for this one as he might be one of the best chemille snipers in DOD, but CAL hates the Marko's, specifically Corey. Watch for an intense battle between Alan Williams and the oh so good these days austizzle on the snipers. I don't see pantera being able to carry his rifle team against Tony and Jared, thus thunder will have factory on lock. Yet again underpass will go to whoever has more patience. Well-timed underpass pushes into puddle/radio will decide the outcome of this match.

Thunder > Monster (2 caps)
Players to watch: Alan, Tony, pantera
