After the numerous move ups, X-Spider has agreed to continue doing CAL Open predictions for Day of Defeat Season 18. The teams predicted here are possible top contenders for playoffs in CAL Open this season. Expect many surprises as the season moves along. Enjoy!
CAL Open Season 18 // Preseason Week 1 // Anzio

Elite Assassins vs. Skull Gaming - Good luck, have fun!!
X-Spider's Prediction: GLHFMB!
vs.
This match will pretty much be between a veteran team and team that is fairly new to the scene (2 seasons?). Both teams are proven to be worthy CAL-Open contenders.
Ninjas with Puppies return to CAL under Laura's leadership. She has reunited this classic team with good players such as peemp^_^v, Showtime, and MeOwA. Assuming Schmiggs plays, the idea of "old school" will be complete, and this team will stay strong.
No Regard comes back to the CAL scene with a slight change in lineups. We can expect MadMartag|n from Sp|n and undeez to be a very strong combination in CAL Open. Backing these two would be BulletSlinger at the sniper rifle and Peekaboo with the heavy (just a guess!!). Expect some good assistance from whoAmazing as well.
nwp has been known for being a consistent team, but I'm sure that noReg will probably care a little bit more. I'd expect nwp to easily control the bridge for most of the match, while the battle at the plaza will be pretty even. It's a tough one to call, but the team with the better defense is going to take this one.
X-Spider's Prediction: Ninjas with Puppies (256 - 189)

We have two teams who are totally dedicated to this game and play like there is no tomorrow. These two teams will provide an even matchup, as I don't see the big names on both rosters anymore.
dgf comes in without powerhouse chRis`, who has recently been acquired by Skull Gaming, and WaTcH who moved on with -|Ea|-. In exchange, they managed to pick up sull3n (or however it is that 1337 players like to spell their name now adays. . .) straight out of K-2 Warcrew. This should be an interesting experience for both teams.
K-2 Warcrew comes in with former sAs Saratoga just being added to this roster. Names I recognize that may be worthy of a starting lineup would be Miller, GodlessCommie, and FunkyMunky. They will be playing against a former teammate.
I think Warcrew cares just a bit more about this match, even though both teams already have high expectations. Due to their loses, dgf's CrooklyN, dmw, CrazyMetalHead, and faLLway will have to step up their game a little more. Personally, I believe this quartet of rifles, sniper, and heavy will be a strong force against K-2. Warcrew has Miller and Sara (assuming she starts) at the rifle positions. We can expect to see FunkyMunky and GodlessCommie at the plaza, facing MetalHead and crew at who can camp the bestestestest. I think dgf will have bridge on lockdown throughout the match, and this will be more than enough to win this match.
X-Spider's Prediction: dgf (301 - 264)

United Gamers makes an appearance in the DoD 1.3 scene from DoD:S hoping to convince the community that they are worthy of being accepted into this community. proFound managed to finish last season with a good record, but many feel that their schedule was just not challenging enough to get them the respect they feel they deserve. Therfore, both teams come in looking for respect from the community.
I had the oppotunity to get wrecked by this UG team at NewEgg Lanfest 2k7 (KTEs aside), and if they can play with that same style, then I don't see why they wouldn't be a strong force. If this team has taken the time to practice DoD 1.3, then they will have at least an even match-up against proFound.
proFound comes in with the same roster as last season, although it looks to me like they lost a few? The only names I recognize are Rage and curbstomp. The few times I've seen White Knight play, it's been at the CAL-O level. If this team practiced, then they will prove worthy against UG.
I think UG has the better chemistry in this matchup, while Rage appears to still be trying to keep his team together for another good season, now that most, if not all, Main+ teams have been weeded out of CAL Open. I think UG's teamwork will win this preseason match, which will be key if UG wants to last in this not-as-broken-as-DoD:S game.
X-Spider's Prediction: United Gamers (487 - 400)

Both teams come in to this pre season opener with completely new rosters and something to prove. There are familiar faces on both rosters, and both are ready to show that they are top contenders for a CAL Open title this season.
ReMiX comes in with CAL-IM+ players that are ready to give teams a tough time. Latest pickups for this team are dpk's poizoned and ITF's shaqfu (not sure how active this man will be. . .).
Good 4 Nothing has also taken the time to revamp their roster for this season. Three players to note are ShotgunBill, Havoc, and RiverHawk. These guys alone show that g4n is serious business this season.
This matchup will be pretty even, and the outcome may be decided in the last few minutes. I would love to see Trigun snipe this season, as he probably one of the few snipers that are actually worth spectating. I see kicken55 and Till working with the automatics at the plaza. Havoc, ShotgunBill, and Riverhawk will have an interesting time against ReMiX's poizoned at the bridge. Mark and Milo will be causing trouble at the plaza against g4n's heavies. In the end, I see g4n with the stronger rifle team, and this will be enough to give them the "W."
X-Spider's Prediction: Good 4 Nothing (326 - 284)

We have two teams from two different worlds. Risk it All (stealing the old risK tag :P) comes from the DoD:S community trying to show that they can also be a force to be reckoned with, as they claim to be in their primary game. mofozombies appear to have 6 on their roster, and makes me worry that they will not be able to hold it together due to this. They better start making pickups!
mtp comes in with two notables, Dark_Phantom36 and vaccine. These two guys are CAL-IM level players, and will have a good time playing against a Source team. At risK's end, it seems that Scrote is probably one of the few on that roster that have actually been active in DoD 1.3. Both teams more than likely lack much experience in DoD 1.3, so this match can easily go either way.
