Day Of Defeat: CAL Open Season 18 Week 4 Predictions

By: Omar Martinez - Published February 27, 2008 at 5:38 PM EST - Writer Archive
Omar "X-Spider" Martinez and Donn "RagedK" Kovac go over the very few "notable" CAL Open matches for Week 4. The map is dod_anzio.

CAL Open Season 18 // Week 4 // Anzio

vs.
X-Spider's Prediction: GLHFMB!!
Good luck, have fun! The road trip to South America continues!
Players to watch: Candyman will be greasing up some Venezuelan kids on Thursday!

vs.
X-Spider's Prediction: Misfit (300 - 264)
Both teams have come a long way to prove that they are mid-upper Open material. Time 2 shine has made some "friends" in the DoD community, and are here to prove that they are not to be underestimated. With two suspended players, the outcome may slightly favor Misfit. Gaul is probably the only guy that will be doing much for t2s, while recent-pickup shaqfu will how t2s what DoD is really about (should he play. . .). I think Misfit will take this only because of the two suspensions, plus their players are a little more experienced than t2s.
Rage's Prediction: Misfit by 100
I have now had a chance to play both teams and i know this will be a very good match. Time2shine has shown good teamwork and a remarkable amount of skill in the short time they have been playing Day of Defeat. Misfit has broken their ties to qtk and they have grown into quite a good team. Gaul and Buddah are quite the rifle team and they will give Weiner and Funkymunky quite a challenge at bridge. The weakness i see in time2shine is in the heavy department. They will be pitted up against a combination of Shaqfu, Cesaro, and Tobis. Any combination of two out of those will be enough to hand t2s' heavies a dealing. Unless the rifles of t2s can carry some serious weight, Misfit will take the win.
Players to watch: Shaqfu, Gaul, Buddah, Funkymunky

vs.
X-Spider's Prediction: Promagix (201 - 199)
I like Nein and Commie, but Commie insists his team is CAL Main material. Let's see how these two match up if they both heavy this week. This is definitely the MotW in CAL Open. I think this match overall will be fairly even, but Promagix is going to surprise everyone this week Nein will be rifle-barring-sniping this entire match. Look out!
Rage's Prediction: Warcrew by at least 50
This week we see two of the top contenders for the Cal open title going at it. Nein and Godlesscommie seem to have some underlying love-hate relationship driving this match to very tense state. At the begining of the season looked at K-2's new roster and it looked more like the leftovers of last season, and Promagix seemed just the washed up remains of Kost. But the workhorse hearts of Nein and Commie have churned these teams into a pleathura of motivated and skilled components. The warcrews Poo and Davis have emerged as amazing rifles and look to dominate bridge with the assistance of the veteran Rob Watts(<3 anna?). Rev 005 and Christman may have something to say about that as they are a blend of high accuracy and quick shots that can discourage even the seasoned opponent. Commie and Miller will duke it out with Nein and Exeter in an epic heavy battle at plaza. I do however see PressLorR winning the sniper battle against Blankclip, as he just has more experience in the field. All in all I will give this one to the Warcrew on the basis that they have shown to be consistently good in matches aswell as outside of them..
Players to watch: Davis, Godlesscommie, Nein, Exeter, Poo.

vs.
X-Spider's Prediction: syN (600 - 365)
mpeezy's recent suspension is going to affect the overall outcome of this match. I still believe that SphinxnihpS will be able to lead this team to victory, whether it be with a rifle or a heavy. SOB is known for having a strong ego if they managed to get a good shot on you. They will immediately call you bad in addition to excessive use of 1337 talk. I am going to give this match to syN because SOB has a player with handle of Spyder, and then there's another kid named Omar on that team. This is completely unacceptable.
Rage's Prediction: nwP by at least 50
Here we have two unknown teams that have roots in pub popular pub clans. SyNchronized has been resurected after almost 7 seasons of inactivity, caused by a lack of league interest from the pub clan Llamas on Drugs. sob, owners of the popular HotBox pub server, now want to get known in the competetive community as well as the public one. The breakdown for this match is quite simple for once. On syN, we will likely see Paintball and Marmotte and Hades rifling, Zorbis be amazing with a light or heavy, and Krauty Boy sniping his heart out. Sob will has Nal. If you have a team in open, get to no his name. Not enough people have heard of him and he has carried Sob this far. He will drop atleast 35 and looks to drop double that on a good day. I don't know if he is legit because i have seen nothing of him in competetive play except screenshots and other pieces of evidence here and there. I will give this one to syN just on the fact I that i do not believe one player can carry a team to victory every thursday.
Players to watch: Zorbis, Paintball, Nal

vs.
X-Spider's Prediction: Triforce Syndicate (300 - 279)
Here we should have another decent match-up for the week. Liah is always able to create teams that will do well at the Lower level, and still have fun at the same time, which is what really matters. I'd like to see Storm play for The Red Brigade this week. If that's the case, then this matchup will be pretty even, especially with Agape's assistance. Too many Zelda characters on that roster, so it's hard for me to say who is who. Good luck to both teams, should be a close one!
Rage's Prediction: The Red Brigade by at least 150
This should be a very fun match. On one side you have the backups of various teams last season banding together to for the Red Brigade. On the other side you have the loyal inhabitants of hyrule who will get shot and swiftly use potions to overcome any opponent. Agape from Red Brigade will overwhelm navi and modify at bridge as he will be using bullets and not arrows or a slingshot. Coalminer will dominate the Red Brigades Sniper as he will be using the Longshot, and as we all know, the hookshot is no comparison. Epona and R-money will be the underdogs in the plaza matchup, as jesusfreak and zizou aka mike will leave them looking for golden skulltula's in the dust.
Players to watch: Agape, Coalminer, JesusFreak, Talon if he shows up

vs.
X-Spider's Prediction: dgf (281 - 252)
In a nutshell, I like Chawls because he's quite the knucklehead. He'll be calling everyone "turrible turrible turrible!" Crazymetalhead will not make a single sound throughout the match, unless it involves firing his auto. bullgooselooney will do a good job at the bridge and plaza sniping as necessary. My boy CrooklyN will do amazing as well at bridge against Rage. This one will also be a fairly close match!
Rage's Prediction: GLHF!!
I know im not supposed to predict my own match, but I would say dgf wins this match. Profound is in a funk, with our players having hard times in and out of the game. Our teamwork is off and on and unless we can pull together soon we will likely be 3-1 in Cal. Good Luck to dgf and lets atleast have fun.
Players to watch: jaz, P3rpetual
