Day Of Defeat: CAL Invite Season 18 Week 5 Predictions

By: Robert Hull - Published March 04, 2008 at 3:22 PM EST - Writer Archive
TAP’s Nick “odm” Heidecker returns with Nefarious Gaming’s Anthony “rNg” Has-Ellison and Robert “sp0rk” Hull filling in a guest pred to analyze week 5 of CAL-Invite on donner.

Jetty vs. TAP

Nick: Can you hear that sound off in the distance? It’s faint now, but by Thursday there will be no mistaking it. The sound of soldiers paddling their way to the battlefield is starting to fill the air as it does every week as a means of psychological warfare. But this week is different. This week they paddle directly into a jetty that could very well turn the tides of their season. Fortunately for them, this jetty may not be as strong as it would have been in the past. As our loyal fans saw last week, they are not the unbeatable juggernaut that the lowly teams in Day of Defeat once feared. By that same token, the Paddlin’ soldiers have focused most of their attention to another call…a Call of Duty. This match could have garnered fanfare equal to that of the Superbowl in year’s passed, but now these teams face off in the twilight of their career with neither showing the heart or dedication that once brought them to the top of the mountain. If this reporter is forced to predict a winner in this battle, then he will flip a coin, and the winner is…TAP by a nose.

Tony: This is a great match-up, even though most of jetty rarely plays, and with their best player leaving the team for remix, it doesn't look great for them coming down the stretch, tap however has been playing pretty close to everyday for a couple weeks now, and are looking good. I'm not sure if Madison is back for tap yet, but if he is, look for tap to control bunker, though they will get some resistance from Riv, should be interesting. Tiacus has also made his first appearance again a week or so ago, which will help Ivan immensely in middle, tap should be able to take this.

3LCMh vs. Super

Nick: In this clash of the titanless, two of the more disappointing teams in the invite division square off on the donner battlefield. The 3xtreme Mafia who lounges on lawn chairs have yet to get off their butts and win a match this season, while the CAL Placement winners of Super only have one legitimate victory. This match could go down in history as the lowest rated match we have ever shown on our airwaves. But fans don’t let this detract your die-hard dedication to our sport! It is often times that the match no one expects anything from delivers greater results than the most hyped of contests. Getting down to the nitty gritty, this match comes down to one undeniable fact. 3LCMh, in an act of utter ridiculousnessocity, removed Sean Burdick from the scoped weaponry and essentially caused his departure from the squad. This move alone will swing momentum to the Super team and hand them the victory on a silver platter, while simultaneously leading to a winless season for the Mafia.

Tony: Well, both these teams have had a rough start, super has made the adjustments in the last 2 weeks, and looks solid and ready to compete for a top spot in invite, however 3h is still not problems fielding six, let alone a good six. At bunker it looks like its going to be mista and snuggs vs. mogers and hvk, to me it seems pretty even in bunker, so this is a toss up there, but with supers new rifle line-up of poizoned and kezia, look for mid to be completely dominated by those two, all blkop will have to do is chill in midhouse, and they get the win.

AYE vs. nPg

Nick: Ladies and gentlemen, this reporter is pleased to bring you breaking news. Last week, we openly speculated the origin and translation of Nascidos Pro Game, and I can proudly bring you the definitely answer. After hours of grueling research, I have come to find that Nascidos Pro Game directly translates to “we let a cheater carry us to victory because we can’t win on our own honorable merits.” One could ask how three words could translate to such a mouthful, but I remind you of my endless credentials and warn you not to doubt or challenge my expertise. As we turn the AYEBAYBAY, their season continues to spiral out of control. After losing Gary Bavarski to shameless fornication, the soldiers have lost another BAYBAY in fluxxiuationz. The reasons given have been contradictory, but this reporter will openly assert that they should have seen this coming with a notorious, immature mercenary within their ranks. While this reporter was unable to join the ranks of AYEBAYBAY at the request of Christian Hatmaker, an even better replacement was found in the Canadian Crusher Joel Edmunds. AYE wins by referee stoppage in the second round.

Tony: Npg lost bitchX last week, and its a sad loss for them, but they will emerge victorious in this battle, Ive had a chance to play nPg on donner, though the roster was a bit different. In bunker we have bNp and stile vs. bud and pinga, if bNp can be random, and stile suddenly learns how to play smart, they can hold the bunker, in fact their going to have to hold bunker, because once bud and pinga get in, they never move. In mid we have probably xeon, nicae, espanhoL and storm, vs.stealth, christian, p12ate and joel edmunds, but i think nPg has the advantage, is should come down to the wire but, i think nPg pulls this out.

THUNDER vs. nef

Nick: My head hurts and my heart is broken. This reporter is unsure for how long these shenanigans will continue, but he pleads for them to stop immediately. In these days of defeat, boredom runs rampant throughout the locker rooms of our budding stars, but sometimes things are taken too far. Alex Kirkland, enough is enough. You once proclaimed your amor for this game. Then you turned your back on it and became an internet predator. But now you have turned nefarious? Nefarious?! NEFARIOUS?! This reporter will not stand for any more of your chicanery. And you, Corey Marko. Is your life so devoid of excitement and entertainment that your only source of enjoyment comes from faking the breakup of your day of defeat army week in and week out? You need a girlfriend. If you have a girlfriend, then dang it get another one. Do anything to fill up more of your days and prevent you from such habitual nonsense. When it comes to a prediction, if both teams could lose this battle then this reporter would cheer for it to happen more than he does for the simultaneous destruction of the New York Yankees and Boston Redsox organizations. Unfortunately, none of those ideal situations will take place, so I’ll predict the heavy favorite: Thunder.

Tony: glhf

Robert: I’m going to contradict Nick’s flawless predicting and put this as my MOTW, simply because Thunder is the best team in dod right now, and could very well see a good opponent in nefarious. Formerly Amor and ePredators, they are without alex kirk this week, and will instead be seeing hitman and his jetpack rifling alongside pantera and rebirth on third. I haven’t seen ivan play dod in forever it seems, maybe I just don’t hang in xm vent as much as I used to, but he’s one of the better stosses of the game, and just a very solid, consistent player, even on thunder last season, his own teammates told me week after week that he was THE most consistent player on the team. So that could possibly be a hinderance, or a big help if I’m wrong about his playing time. Of course alan wilyams will be pitted against his former teammates as well, more importantly the battle between him and JaGGoN. Kyran and rNg will meet specops and ryanemo in bunker, which imo won’t be much of a battle at all, Thunder’s players spend far too much time practicing strats, spam spots, and scrimming to lose any part of this match, especially bunker. Heads up NEF, this is the real best team in invite.

BNG vs. DA

Nick: Looking at the twelve members who like to game butt naked, this reporter wonders how they have only managed one victory via an administrator overturn. Perhaps they, like so many others, have lost the fire and passion for competing in the online battlefield. But if there was ever a week for the naked gamers to get a legitimate victory, this could be the week. A close loss to United Gamers leads this reporter to think they could turn their season around starting now. Dumbledore’s cursed army welcomes back their rusty analog from a brief suspension, who was greatly missed during their blowout loss last week. In this digital age, analog will provide the extra firepower they have been missing in the rifle-dominant town of Donner. Unfortunately for the wizard Dumbledore, this reporter does not believe his magic will be enough to carry them to victory over the full monty that is the Butt Naked Gaming Syndicate.

Tony: Now, I love everyone on da, and they have a lot of talent around the map, but BnG has a pretty nasty line-up, in mid we have dorito, dyelife, and arn, which is probably one of the most talented rifle line-ups in invite, BnG also has que, who is one of the top snipers, but with that we have ao, analog, rents and austizzle, also a very talented group of guys, but i dont think it will be enough to hold down BnG, so it's going to come down to k4b00m and dderp being able to break mid, hold bunker, and get good pushes out if da plans on winning.

UG vs. nL

Nick: Back in this reporter’s prime killing days of 2005, he never believed he would label a match pitting the United Gamers and the no Limit…erm…Luck soldiers as the Battle of the Week, but in early 2008 that is exactly what he is doing. While many combatants have moved on to other fields of war, these two battling factions have proclaimed their loyalty to the Day of Defeat, and carry the torch proudly for all their fans to see. While the United Gamers are coming off a heartbreaking five point loss to the Paddlin’ Patrol, the soldiers without any luck scored a decisive and dominating victory over the jetty juggernaut. On the battlefields in Donner, strong teamwork and communication will be key to achieving final victory, but if hearing loss should tragically strike down both teams, then this reporter can confidently say that the young Connor Iorio will show his mastery of scoped weaponry in a close, gritty victory. I predict a Lucky victory by split decision after going to the judges’ scorecards.

Tony: Great match up here, we're going to get a chance to see jordan lak the online superstar, vs the lan proven star, jackson, though with eqz, dean and iorio on his side, i see mid being controlled by noLuck, simply because UG doesn't really have the talent to back-up jordan, in bunker it's going to be willeh and leroy vs. spoon and hXc, to be completely honest, i think noluck is gonna control this most of the time too, i have yet to see hXc to really anything special in matches, and spoon isnt good enough to stop willeh's gayness, and leroy's skill. Should be a fun match to watch.
