Robert “sp0rk” Hull sits down with CAL-Invite’s lucky 8 teams and does predictions for quarterfinals on dod_anzio. (#1) Frag Dominant vs. (#8) AYEBAYBAY
Previous match-up: N/A
Previous map: N/A
Jared “toxinator” Mundy on AYE: Well we have yet to play AYEBAYBAY yet, but from what I've seen, I'm quite impressed. They have tweaked their roster since last season in main and it seems like it has made a drastic change. I felt they more or less held their own in invite and judging by the scores of their previous matches they are definitely a more solid squad. I look forward to having a fun match against them on Anzio being that they are all laid back cool guys. Best of luck and see you Thursday.
Christian “tennis pro” Hatmaker on Thunder: I think they're strong in slowing down the heavies and letting the rifles do the work. On maps like Harrington Tox always saves Ryan/spec ops, so on Anzio I suspect JaGGoN will try and stop badnews and I from double windows. So we'll just have to speed things up and run them over. We play pretty aggressive which could be bad if we're getting flanked. Thunder is strong in slowing down the heavies and letting the rifles do the work. For Anzio we're going to have to be relaxed on bridge and let badnews and I push though plaza. Our hope is that JaGGoN will rage quit and ban us from scrimdod, so we may cap out and move on to the next round. Stealth against cypher will be a good battle, and nobody plays smarter than Ed 'endofone' Glazenski so look for Ed to be like 18-3 as he never dies. Playing this one for Garyb!
Robert: I don’t really see AYE wiggling their way out of this one. DOD’s best team, with some of the best teamwork and players the game has ever seen is shooting for nothing less than winning Invite. JaGGoN loves to kar plaza as his spam spot from double windows to pizza is something he has relentlessly perfected. Cypher’s quickness on bridge with mexicant there to steal everyone’s kills and tox to clean up leave Ryan and specops to heavy at plaza. AYE sees bnp and Hatmaker heavying plaza with probably stealth moving there so they can at least have him pick off enough people that they can cap so it keeps things interesting as thunder’s bridge squad will be near impossible to stop.
FD > AYE by 80-130 Players to watch: JaGGoN, stealth, mexicant
(#2) noLuck vs. (#7) Team Super
Previous match-up: nL >Super 421-48
Previous map: solitude
Connor “iorio” Iorio on Super: Anzio is definitely one of our favorite maps, therefore we feel very confident coming into the first round of playoffs. If we can capitalize on our kills I think we will come out with a win. We are looking forward to playing Team Super this Thursday, so everyone should come out and watch, it should be a good match. Thanks
Chris “Fallen” Koenig on noLuck: Well noLuck is certainly a team to beat, and honestly everyone on their starting 6 is really good, I was too busy dying to notice their strategy. As far as playoffs go, we have to hope we have 6 quality starting players, 3 people left hours before the roster lock and didn't really give us time to find replacements. If everyone shows up that's supposed to (so we don't have to use dave/hemo) it should be a good match.
Robert: although the rankings say otherwise, this is probably going to have a bigger margin than #1 vs. #8. Super has lost key players, most notably poizoned, which would more than likely make this a much closer match. Dean is gonna be proning homies while avoiding his gangster counterpart in illusion because he probably doesn’t want the clap, and I’m sure Connor and Craigy will be beasting as usual locking down bridge and possibly plaza should iorio decide to rotate there. You can probably rely on super to play as gay as possible to attempt to follow up their 2nd place finish in main last season, but don’t count on them moving past quarters.

(#3) Nefarious Gaming vs. (#6) United Gamers
Previous match-up: NEF>UG 363-325
Previous map: Harrington
Anthony “rNg” Has-Ellison on UG: Well, this match is going to be tough, UG is underrated, and has great teamwork and could easily upset a lot of good teams, they showed this in our last match, giving us a run until about the last 5 seconds. )= One thing ive noticed about UG is it is very difficult to get a big lead on them, and they've shown that through the season with their countless amount of close matches. That being said, i think were both very well rounded teams who have players at every position that can change the pace of the match. To win this match, i personally believe it going to come down to whether we can control bridge on allied side, and keep UG off of plaza when we take axis side, if we can keep them off balance at plaza, i think we can win this match and advance us further into playoffs.
Khoi “GungHoUnit” Ngo on NEF: Nefarious Gaming is a team consisting of good players. However, they are a new team that was formed only this season. I don't believe they have the same sense of chemistry that we have with only a season's worth compared to our ~two and a half years. That being said, in my opinion, they rely a lot of their matches on individual skill to help with their still-in-progress relationship. Players such as Kirk, Loki, and Pantera definitely help this. To be honest, I don't know what happened the last time we met on Harrington. We were doing fine up until like the last ten minutes of the second half. We definitely broke down and allowed them to cap out twice within a minute or so, lol. Anzio has definitely been a strange map for us. We always tend to lose total control of one side of the map, whichever that is. Spoon and hXc are good heavy partners. jlak is definitely the strong one in our rifle team so he has always helped out a lot. We've always had a good strat on Anzio and it all depends on how well we hold both caps. Because, like I said earlier, we tend to lose TOTAL control of one side and it hurts us a lot. Hopefully I won't be terrible and we're all on our game.
Robert: Probably going to be the closest match in invite this week. The advantage here I feel is Loki, who I like to compare to fr0d in the sense that he basically never misses. Even stupid “broken game” shots. That being said, I feel Loki will probably go plaza and then rotate bridge leaving pantera, Alan Williams, and Kirk to the dirty work of clearing bridge so he can snipe UG’s spawn from either half. Although killing semiautomaticrevolver is a chore in itself, especially when paired with alpha and jlak, it is certainly a force to be reckoned with. And let’s not forget dod’s former favorite bowl cut player [he cut it off!!!! L] hXc with dod’s other and better utensil Spoon facing off against Kyran and rNg. The last time I really saw KOG play was the dpk TA match where he proceeded to drop what I remember as an 11 bomb with a kar on this very map, so let’s hope his stg/bar treats him better this go around in post season. I give NEF the edge with their sniper helping out at plaza where their heavies might need the help.
NEF > UG by anywhere from 30 to 100 Players to watch: EVERYONE! Hooray
(#4) Nascidos Pro Game vs. (#5) That’s a Paddlin’
Previous match-up: nPg > TAP 186-4
Previous map: solitude
Joao “BitchX” Laod on TAP: TAP has a really strong lineup, all their players have really good individual skills, especially vasily and Patten, all of them are really experienced players that have been to CAL playoffs. I believe bridge will be the key flag/cap in this match; whichever team captures bridge will dominate the map. We won't have bud on plaza so its going to be a little more difficult for us to cap it, but we'll play hard and do the best we can to try match the same score we did on solitude. But then again, they have a really strong lineup, which will make things hard for us. One thing I can assure you is this match will be really nice to watch and play :)
Nick “I RIDE LIKE LOL” Patten on nPg: well as a team we've never really taken time to prepare for CAL matches, or at least the last few seasons I've been with TAP we just get our team together on match day and try our best, clearly it wasn't enough against this powerhouse of a team. However playoffs is a different story for us, we really seem to get our shit together and get our best six players to practice, and im sure nPg will notice a difference when we play them next week.
Robert: Unfortunately for TAP mission was recently suspended for not running ACS (cheater!!!) in a cod4 match, which adds to the suspension of Scott glorious angus, taking their starting heavies out of this match. All six remaining active TAP players will have to play this match including Ham? and Bobson who haven’t normally played during the season. They’ve been in scrimdod night after night scrimming so hopefully they’ll put up a better fight than the last meeting and no potty mouth talk will occur in chance TAP advances to the semifinals. Doubtful, but it is possible since one of nPg’s starting heavies is out, which should lighten the load on doc and Bobson. My advice: make sure you send vasily, Tiacus, and nick wherever BitchX is. Hopefully they’ll pull it out, but I’m calling this one regardless of favorites.
