DOTA: Breaking it Down: Prime Defending Playoffs

By: Neha Nair - Published September 24, 2007 at 6:59 PM EDT - Writer Archive
The seventh season of the Prime Defending tournament is almost over. PinkPriestess predict's the first round of the playoffs with guest, eXp|Gosu.

Prime Defending 7 Playoffs Round 1
MYM.DotA

(International)

(4-0)

vs

Excello

Canada

(3-1)

PinkPriestess predicts: MYM has been completely dominating all their matches recently so I expect them to continue. Excello and ROFL were the expected contenders for their group in the playoffs stage but things turned out differently. One of the biggest upsets, Excello losing to BTB questioned a lot in the community. I expect MYM to win easily over Excello, but the Canadian powerhouse has come a long way so it's certain they'll put up a big fight.

MYM > Excello

eXp|Gosu predicts: This should be a fun match to watch between MYM and Xlo. Xlo came in second in their division behind the huge underdog team BTB, that put up a 4-0 in group stage. Although Xlo has some strong members on the team I believe this should be a fairly easy match for MYM, not because of the lack of skill in Xlo but the teamwork and powerhouses that the MYM lineup consists of.

MYM > Excello

Hard Team

Ukraine

(3-1)

vs

Defective Gaming

Germany

(3-1)

PinkPriestess predicts: Hard Team has been consistently solid in this tournament but I see dg as one of the underdog teams. After watching a few replays I was honestly impressed with dg's performance, especially since it was a team I didn't really know about. With equal scores from the group stage I'd say either team has an equal chance at winning. This will be a close call but I'm going to have to go with dg.

DG > HT

eXp|Gosu predicts: Although I do not know a lot about either of these teams I have scrimmed against DG and know they like to use very interesting lineups. Neither team has powerhouses, but what they lack in raw skill is made up in very solid teamwork. This will be a very exciting match. I see this game going until 70 or 80 minutes with DG coming out on top.

DG > HT

Emazing Gaming

(International)

(4-0)

vs

Red Bear

France

(3-1)

PinkPriestess predicts: eMg has always lacked support from the DotA community. There was a period of time where there performance went down and there were many roster changes. Now I have to say that their performance is at it's prime. The team recently returned from a LAN tournament with a win and also defeated sP in the group stage. This will be an emotional match if Rwar decides to participate vs former team, rB. the rB roster is solid and it would be no surprise if they won instead. I predict this to be one of the closest matches similar to eMg vs sP where it all comes down to who wards/executes better. When it comes to warding/execution, I have to give it to eMg.

eMg > rB

eXp|Gosu predicts: The new team rB is looking very strong after their 3-1 in group A. After beating VP in the tiebreakers, I think rB might pull an upset win against eMg here. I know eMg has been practicing countless amounts of hours and it has proved time worthy seeing as they were the top seed in group C. I predict this will be a fun game to watch and rB will pull an upset win here.

rB > eMg

sP[Palit]Kow3

Russia

(3-1)

vs

Ks

Malaysia

(4-0)

PinkPriestess predicts: sP's performance hasn't been as strong lately, they even lost venom. However I still expect them to be able to defeat this team. I haven't really heard/seen team Ks much but I do know sP has always been a solid team that has been around for a long time.

sP > Ks

eXp|Gosu predicts: Although I am not familiar with the Ks team, I know sP is going to have to play strong in this game. After coming off a loss to eMg, I hope sP can put that behind themselves and prove that they are one of the top teams remaining in this tournament. I have a feeling some of the dominant players in sP are going to step up and give sP the win.

sP > Ks

Back to Basics

(International)

(4-0)

vs

SK Gaming

Sweden

(3-1)

PinkPriestess predicts: BTB has definitely impressed everyone this tournament. They completely dominated their group, pulling a 4-0. On the other hand, SK has struggled in a few matches as opposed to their usual domination. However, star player Loda is back for the playoffs and I'm sure he's ready to dominate once again. SK's teamwork has always amazed the community and I'm sure that will continue.

SK > BTB

eXp|Gosu predicts: SK has been one of the top 4 teams in the world for some time now, and after the loss of Loda due to vacation they have been struggling. They still have a very solid group of players including some of the best teamwork I have witnessed in Dota, but  I do not know if SK is going to get past this round. BTB played outstanding in group stages and came out 4-0 in front of Xlo. I have yet to see this team play but from what I hear they are a team that can compete with the best. I predict an upset win by BTB here in a very close game. I predict this will be the best match of the playoffs.

BTB > SK

Team Q

Sweden

(3-1)

vs

ieS Virtual Gaming

Germany

(3-1)

PinkPriestess predicts: Team Q created a DotA legacy long ago and much has changed since then. The roster has changed has changed but the team has been practicing a lot lately. After playing with some Q members I noticed one thing, teamwork. They are constantly talking to each other and I think their performance has been underrated. Although ieS has proven to be a strong team, I think Q will take this one.

Q > ieS

eXp|Gosu predicts: Q is making a comeback and oh boy its at the perfect time. After taking a break for a year they are back and ready to prove why they belong with the best of the best. After going 3-1 in the group stages they have proven to be contenders once again. ieS on the other hand is a strong team that has been together for a while now. I am going to predict Q to win this in a fairly easy match.

Q > ieS

Xero Skill

(International)

(4-0)

vs

Stars VD

Vietnam

(3-1)

PinkPriestess predicts: Stars VD is an impressive team but I think they're no match for XsK. I used to think eMg was a practice-crazy team until I saw XsK. These guys have been practicing non stop and have proven to be a big team with a lot of potential. I expect XsK to triump over Stars VD with no trouble. PS: There's one thing XsK has that Stars VD doesn't, Miky "Samurai" Chea! gogogo

XsK > Stars VD

eXp|Gosu predicts: Although I know little about Stars, I know that XsK has been practicing their hearts out. They are playing all day and all night and it has paid off. XsK is playing very well right now and I predict this game will be an easy matchup.

XsK > Stars VD

Virtus.Pro

Russia

(3-1)

vs

Team hi2u

(International)

(3-1)

PinkPriestess predicts: Team hi2u is currently one of America's strongest teams. Although they have come a long way I don't think they can quite match up to a powerhouse team like VP yet. VP has consistently dominated the Russian and international scene and I'm sure that will only continue this tournament.

VP > hi2u

eXp|Gosu predicts: vP is considered possibly the best team in the world right now and once again they prove themselves by making it this far. vP is stacked with powerhouse players that know how to play dota to their best ability. vP is also one of the most aggressive teams in the competitive scene right now, and I foresee this to be a problem for Hi2u. With the new additions to Hi2u they are playing very well. Making the playoffs is not an easy thing to do, but this will be a very hard match for Hi2u. I predict an easy win for vP.

VP > hi2u
