New leader of Pandemic DotA, Eugene "DijonGenie" Kim, talks with PinkPriestess about his team's return to DotA and what's in store for the future. The Pandemic DotA team created a legacy in North America along with other teams, when competitive DotA was new. They won the first cash prize online tournament, CEVO, defeating Team Complexity in the finals. For a while the team stayed on top of their game proving to be one of North America's powerhouse teams. Not only did they excel at a national level, but they also proved they could compete against teams like MYM on an international scale. After a while the team's activity started to decline and they were out of the scene for a long time. "We pretty much try to scrim every night and we IHCS often so I can say we're back on top of our game." Now the team is back, practicing hard and hope to once again reign the competitive DotA scene. The team is currently signed up for the recently announced "Battle for the Throne" tournament hosted by TGL. They also plan on signing up for the next Prime Defending tournament despite previous conflicts. "Sure, we don't hold any grudges. Currently looking for any other leagues to play in." Pandemic DotA will hopefully be seen in any large scale DotA LAN as well. Interview with DijonGenie[P] Since Larry stepped down as leader, how was it decided that you would be the new leader for Pandemic DotA? For a while Larry has asked me to be leader, I just never had the motivation to do it till now. Since, he's too busy to be leader I took the initiative and took the job. That's pretty much it, since my teammates had respect for me and my decisions. Was it you that recruited the new members? Please list the newest recruits for those that don't know and how/why you recruited them! Hell yeah I recruited everyone! Okay, since I have been bombed with all these questions about who is on tPD, I'll just list everyone; Fachh, Chipmunk, Yoshi, Protoss, Durty, Positive, Ownage-Juice, Zbob, and Wedge. The starting lineup will more than likely be ; fachh, chipmunk, ownage, p0sitive, and I. How did you decide on the starting lineup? Through scrimming and whoever was most active. Does Pandemic plan on sending your team to the Chicago LAN? If so, who would attend? I didn't even know there was a Chicago LAN so I don't even know, I am sure our manager would send us there. Especially because it is an NA tournament, so I don't see why not. Nonetheless, you all can probably expect us there Who would go do you think? If someone can't go who are the next in line? Starting lineup, or whoever it's most convenient to send. Durty and Yoshi would be next in line. Bob and Glenn are in Europe, so that'll be a hassle unfortunately, although I would love to meet the two. Wedge hasn't been active with us as of now. Do you think your team is stronger now? How often do you guys scrim? As of right now, I think the team is actually stronger than the past tPD. We pretty much try to scrim every night and we IHCS often so I can say we're back on top of our game. Who decides on heroes/strategies? Does everyone give input? I pretty much decide on the heroes and strategies. I take some input, not as much as I should though. My head doesn't work like that, but that's okay, my players trust my decisions. Currently your team is signed up for TGL! What are your thoughts on the tournament and how do you expect your team to perform in it? I haven't really looked far into yet. Mainly using it to practice, but yea looks interesting. By far the biggest online tournament (prize pool wise). I expect us to be top 3 what can I say, we're and ignorant team. Your team had some issues in one of the MYM Tournaments, do you plan on signing up for the next one or any other leagues? Sure, we don't hold any grudges. Currently looking for any other leagues to play in. Do you think your team would ever get to travel to any overseas tournaments? Have you discussed it with Lemley? Depends on the prize pool and how big it is. I've talked to him about Dreamhack he doesn't know yet. He's already sending one team there, he has just to decide which team from tPD he will send. Do you have your own personal predictions on the current MYM Tournament? What are your opinions on some of the matches and who do you expect to win? Although, Jacob is a punk I have to give props to MYM. I personally see them taking the crown, this time around. After watching the replays, seems like they adapted well against the Russian style everyone so fears. Alright well thanks for the interview and good luck with TGL. Is there anything else you want to say/shoutouts? Shoutout to all the fans, our sponsors, and of course tPD. COME VISIT US teampandemic.net |
