Halo 3: MLG San Diego Halo 3 Preview

By: Michael Murray - Published June 12, 2008 at 9:34 PM EDT - Writer Archive
With the second stop of the MLG 2008 Pro Circuit hitting us this weekend, lets take a look at who will be showing up fight for first in Halo 3.

The stage is set for another showdown between the best Halo 3 teams in the world. Among the top teams are veterans of the game that have proved their worth over years of competition. With this season already starting off with a hell of a competition, we have seen some great teams rise and some fall. Coming into stop number two of the MLG 2008 Pro Circuit, a number of teams will be fighting harder than ever to move themselves into the championship picture with each stop meaning something in the end.

Following a plethora of upsets in Meadowlands back in April, we see teams such as Carbon, Str8 Rippin, and the Agency coming into this stop with everything on the line. For teams like Final Boss and Classic, San Diego is just another city to put their name on the stake. Let's take a look at who could play big and go home with cash.

Final Boss
Walshy
Strongside
OGRE 1
OGRE 2

Proving that they are the best in the Halo universe, Final Boss came back from a dismal online tournament placing (out of top 10) to take control of the entire event. Using their experience in the LAN environment as well as their skill in the game, Final Boss was able to ride high and dry as they took out Team Classic from the lower bracket of Meadowlands. Winning each set of maps 3-1, Final Boss breezed through and pocketed even more cash. Their pockets may be getting heavy, but they will never complain.

Observation: Final Boss CAN be beat, as they had been in the lower bracket of MULTIPLE tournaments. Being weaker in objective-based gametypes, they tend to win by outfragging the other team nearly every match-up. If you want to beat Final Boss, capitalize on the rounds won and don't give up. Once you give up an ounce, the battle is totally lost.

Nice writeup. I really like Tsquared and hope Str8 Rippin' does well, but I concur that FB is the favorite

#2 This is a bad write up. Victory X doesn't even play for The Agency anymore he plays for Triggers Down. BTW what about Triggers down. Their roster is a shoe in for top 5 and is seeded 4th overall. You would think writers here would check the official pro teams seeding and roster thread in MLG forums so they at least get the line ups right in the write ups. :/

Also Snip3Down from Ambush is Victory's replacement for The Agency.

#6 The Agency = Instinct

#5 You guys are owned by MLG practically now and I just expect that you would know what happens between events. You had a group attend Meadowlands and covering it so I would hope you would follow closely with community changes. Roster changes go down between every event so it is very wise to watch the forums at mlgpro.com so you make sure you don't miss them. Also Triggers Down is a top 4 seeded team and with Victory X on their roster now instead of Lowkin they are a insane contending roster for top 3. I would definitely consider them to be a preview worthy team at this point.

Just keep track of what goes around the scene and you will get it. I am not trying to be insulting, but I expect better from a coverage site that is basically owned by MLG.

In h3 FB is stronger in objective gametypes opposed to slayer, most of their loses at meadowlands were in slayer.

"Split them up and you can take them down with minimal harm"

How can you say that. Snipe is one of the best slayers in the game, Mackeo is also one of the dirtiest. That statement has no truth to it.

So, in your opinion, all of Instinct are weak when it comes to individual skill?

To be honest #14, Instinct is a great team, hence why I believe that they are a top contending team. However, teamwork is very powerful if teammates work together correctly. I believe that if other teams can team up and hit their shots against Instinct, then Instinct can be limited in how well they can come back. If you remember Classic vs. FB, Classic has great players that stand out and they were able to take down FB before the finals by working together.

#15.

Obviously teamwork is important. I'm not clueless when it comes to Halo, I'm one of the most known Canadians have always competed with top tier players. Teamwork is key to any team, but saying if teams hit their shots on Instinct leaves them little chance at winning. Snipedown and Mackeo have two of the best shots in Halo 3, that raw talent is enough to carry them past almost every team in the Championship bracket, and if that teamwork is there, they can easily place top two. By the way, Snipedown is one of the three best players in the game.

Teamwork is important to any team-based game obviously. What I'm trying to say is that if a team can work together in tandem and hit what they need to, Instinct can be stopped. Raw talent or no, teamwork is the biggest player in any match. I've spoken to plenty of professionals spanning a number of games, and the best have told me themselves that they aren't the best player out there but they know they can win with their team, due to the fact that they are comfortable with their team and they are most powerful then. You are obviously looking past this and looking only at names, which is understandably since Instinct has some big names. We will see how San Diego plays out, in the meantime my opinion stands strong :-)

"I don't know how they do it, but they form one of the most proficient teams that I have seen in the game, and they have only BEGUN at Meadowlands, give them another stop or two and we can expect to see them dominate should they keep up the focus and determination."

I don't think a lot of people realize how long Ant and soldier187 have been playing together. They aren't randoms that just recently got together. My team had played them a couple of times in Matchmaking in H2 something like 3-4 years ago. They don't lack the teamwork because they have lots of experience playing together.

#18 exactly, they can only do better with time. This is a compliment in case you didn't know.
