Halo 3: Featured Match Interview: GW!Morthul

u5-Andy's interview with Mark "Morthul" Ernst about GameWyze's upcoming match with [xeno].

Give me a little background about your team and how it has been doing recently.

GW!Morthul: Our team is made up of players with different backgrounds, m0rthul played ut2k3, whewt and y0 played CS, lucci is new to PC games, Roor played soccer, and meth played TFC. we are currently 5-0 in CAL and we have yet to be capped against this season.

Please state your starting 5 for this match and how each player will play an important role to the successfulness of this match.

GW!Morthul: Our starting 5 is still a little up in the air. The people playing that we do know will be Whewt, lucci, y0, and morthul. Our 5th is still in committee for this match. Each player will help our success in the match through their playstyle. Whewt likes to go blow stuff up so he plays the field. y0 likes to bait m0rthul so he will be trying to snipe, but no promises. Lucci enjoys running people over in ghosts and long walks in the beach, so he will be capper. y0 will be running around most likely wishing he could see invis. Our 5th while undecided will most likely play a field position.

GameWyze recently had an impressive 2-0 win over Eminence on IceFields. Did you change your practice schedule for this match to better prepare? Have you been practicing enough this week to prepare you for xeno?

GW!Morthul: We would be lying if we said we didn't scrim more for Eminence then say, one of the teams we 10-0'd. The heavy part of our scrimming is usually done the Sunday - Tuesday before the match. Those days will decide how much practice we will get in.

Before becoming part of GameWyze, a few of your players had a lot of success playing for MagI; taking down teams such as xeno and United 5. Do you think this success has been carried over to GameWyze? Do you think you can take down xeno again?

GW!Morthul: Everyone on our roster except for Hawk played for Magi. We broke off due to conflicts of interest and growing disagreements between members. You cant go into a match feeling you have no chance against a team. So we go into this match looking forward to playing xeno, not fearing it.

You've recently picked up Hawk of such teams as afteR dominatioN and Eminence. How do you think this will effect the playing ability of GameWyze and will he be playing against xeno?

GW!Morthul: Our team heavily relies on coordinated pushes and communication between members. It is not easy to fit into our roster overnight. Who knows though, if we get Hawk scrimming enough you might just see him make an appearance in the match.

Theres been talk that GameWyze will be holding a pre-CPL bootcamp this summer. Can you give us some specifics such as who will be attending?

GW!Morthul: We will be holding a bootcamp before the CPL at one of the gamewyze lan centers. While we cannot give out the names of the teams attending at this time, we are looking forward to it without question.

Who do you think will be your biggest challenges at Summer CPL 2004 and who do you hope to face?

GW!Morthul: Halo is a whole different game on LAN. Teams that could not perform well due to poor pings might prove to be superstars on LAN. So in that respect, we will go into CPL not underestimating any teams. We do hope to face a European team at CPL. Their playstyle is supposed to differ from the American Halo scene, and we would like to see how different and effective their strats are.

How do you feel about the switch from PC to CE in CAL and the CPL? Do you feel this switch is for the better? Do you think, now that GearBox has the ability to release patches at will, the game will improve?

GW!Morthul: CE has its good points, and its bad points. The best thing about CE as you have stated is the ability for GearBox to release patches without going through Microsoft. GearBox has used Microsoft as an excuse for months as to why they couldn't release patches for HaloPC. Now that they can't use that excuse anymore, we will see if they can step up and deliver what they promised us 6 months ago whenthe game was released.
