oPlaiD's interview with Steve "Coldmeat" Kolodziej about Grassroots' upcoming match with NoX.
Give me a little background about your team and how it has been doing recently?
Gr-Coldmeat: Grassroots has always been doing well, I have never really
complained about our performance against high ranked teams and our ability to put up
points. As of late I feel that we are at the peak of our game and we are getting
along well with our roster.
Grassroots has had a lot of changes since last season, losing Cr4sh, Beast, and
mmptr but adding Zier, Machina, pook, and others. What's the truth behind all these
changes, and how has Gr managed to remain a top 5 team after so much turmoil among the
team?
Gr-Coldmeat: The changes were insight of the upcoming Summer CPL event.
The loss of Cr4sh and Beast was actually scheduled as we had discussed it greatly
in the past and they were aware that CPL would ultimately be the split of our ways.
They since have moved on to COD and we still keep in touch. Lebron, well he
was not getting along with the new team and felt it right for him to step out unnoticeably
and we too are still on good terms. As far as GR staying as a top 5 team, I was
fortunate enough to have their cooperation and commitment before the merger took place,
and the two teams meshed into what we have today. We had some rocky times in the
beginning over how to play the game, but in the end we were able to derive a winning
combination.
Recently, Gr has added Mik3stro and now Dirt to the team. Both are too young for
CPL, but many say Mik3stro is your strongest player. Why did you recruit these new talents
and how do you deal with having such a large lineup for online play with CPL just around
the corner?
Gr-Coldmeat: When we parted ways with Cr4sh and Beast we did not
anticipate Lebron's team hopping, and thought that a 6 man roster would be great for
practice and play time. When Lebron bailed we were left with a hole and decided to pickup
an extra player. We played with Mike for a bit and found his aim to be incredible so
we decided to give him a shot. I've always been a fan of young gamers and gave him a
shot on our roster, nearly the exact same way Doss arrived on the scene, but I know some
people have nightmares when they hear that name so I'll leave that part out. We then
added Dirt because we had played with him before and had developed a good relationship; we
also felt that his style collaborated well with ours.
Regarding Mike's large amount of publicity, well I wouldn't consider him our best player,
but definitely a nice asset. His aim added along with Zier and Machina flow
perfectly with me and Soula's strategic thinking. As far as CPL goes, we still have
only 5 eligible players and both Mike and Dirt are aware that they will have a bit of a
second seat while we prepare for the main event.
If you could pick one player on your team to have a big game in your match this
week, who would it be and why?
Gr-Coldmeat: Definetly Soula, his position is key and I can't say too
much about it, seeing as how those Nox guys are going to be scanning this document for any
possible clues.
What do you think are NoX's greatest strengths as a team, and what will you do to
counter them during your match?
Gr-Coldmeat: Team Nox has always been a good group to play against, their
style to me is very basic and I am simply hoping that our aim will stack up to theirs.
We have always been known very little for our aim since I have never been a fan of
the pistol but we have a very different roster nowadays and I feel confident it its
potential. We are looking to add a little spice to this setup even though Blood Gulch is
the most straight forward map in the game.
If you could pick one player on NoX to have a bad game in your match this week,
who would it be and why?
Gr-Coldmeat: I have always been a big fan of Vespillo and Grifter. Yet
Vespillo is going to be our biggest threat since he is well aware of the advantages of
crossfire. If he has a bad game or maybe his connection fluctuates, I would definitely be
caught paying off some cable companies for that one. All and all I see him as being
the key to our demise.
Halo CE was recently released. Your thoughts on the newest change to Halo, and
have you played any new maps you'd like to see in competition?
Gr-Coldmeat: HORRIBLE. NOT A FAN AT ALL. We think that Halo
PC was a godsend compared to Halo CE. The major problem we have is that the game is
essentially in version 1.01 but it has fast shaders and you don't lead as much. Yet
your rockets still do not kill 100%, your hit detection is off the wall, and it feels that
you are generally found praying that your Fuel Rod will flip the enemy vehicle. As
far as maps go, I have been skimming through all of the new releases and do not feel that
any would fit as of yet. However I have been making one, but I am not going to
finish its textures. If Cal is willing to play the map without the finished
textures, well then I'll release it, but otherwise the map will remain incomplete.
So far those that have seen it, enjoy its layout and would add it if they had the
chance, which is always a plus.
Shoutouts?
Gr-Coldmeat: Hrmm. Crash, Beast, Lebron, Raydar (all of our old
teammates) DirtyJ, Runamuck, Sneak (you will never beat our idlers) Xeno(Only if they
haven't given up on CAL) And all of those that will be joining us in Tribes Vengeance
after CPL =).
