Peter Harlan's interview with Justin "kaeXo" Johnson about Check Six's round one playoff match against GameWyze.
x6-kaeXo: It's simple, really. Xeno tried for many months to secure us a high quality sponsorship, but unfortunately, Xeno could't pull through for us in time. We decided we would transfer over to Check-Six for full sponsorship. We have no hard feelings with Xeno. Some of us are still affiliated with them and we are all still on good terms. We just had to decide which was more important: Name or Money. Recently your team picked up McKee, formerly from TAU. With CAL rosters locked and with McKee not attending CPL the addition confused many. Could you explain why you guys picked him up? x6-kaeXo: I have no idea. I found out we recruited him from GotFrag. It's probably because we needed a permanent ringer of sorts. The CAL seedings were released yesterday, and many people have called the seedings a joke. What are your overall thoughts on the seedings, and how do you feel about Check Six being seeded last despite having the best PF/PA ratio out of all the 6-2 teams? x6-kaeXo: CAL has always done weird stuff when it comes to playoffs. They can't ever find a system that isn't completely, for lack of a better word, retarded. I don't really care too much though. We would have had to played these teams (or teams that beat them) anyway. However, it would have been nice if we had known the map a bit more in advance. All in all, the best (online) team will win CAL. Several people have questioned the map rotation that will be used for the playoffs. With the lack of Blood Gulch, Halo's signature map; they might have a legitimate gripe. What are your feelings toward Sidewinder being used back to back and how do you feel about Blood Gulch being left out? x6-kaeXo: Leaving out BG is pretty ignorant. Poll after poll, the community has wanted BG as the finals map. I'm a bit biased, because it's my favorite map. Sidewinder is an okay map, but not playoff material. I think CAL wanted to do something a bit different this time, but they don't realize that different isn't always better. Check Six has stated several times throughout this season that they don't really care about CAL. Will this attitude change at all with an opportunity to get revenge on GameWyze this week and throughout the playoffs in general? x6-kaeXo: Yes. We want to beat GW not because we don't like them or because we think their win over us was a fluke. We want to win to prove to the community that we aren't a bunch of nubs now and that we still can be a top contender. However, there are many things going on now that will hurt us in this match. For instance, eVa will not be able to play and our 5th (stivic) hasn't played much Halo (with or without us) in a while. Also, Lineage2 Chronicle 1 is being released the night before the match, so I will be busy and have been busy in anticipation for it's released the week before the match, so we won't be able to scrim as much as we need. However, I still think we should be able to get anough practice in so that we can't use this as an excuse if we lose. Before you quit Halo for Call of Duty, GameWyze was known as Celsius and wasn't even considered a top 20 team, let alone top 10. Now, they are ranked #1 on the top 10 list. What is the biggest difference you have noticed with them when playing with them, and do you think they deserve their #1 ranking? x6-kaeXo: I don't think they deserve the #1 rank. They aren't any different than any other team I've played. I believe they just had a streak of good luck taking down Wat? and x6 back to back. I'm not saying that they didn't deserve these wins, I just think that they were playing well and since these matches were back to back, people are over-hyping these wins. However, I would say that GW is in contention for the #1 rank. Personally, I consider five teams to be about equal, depending on the map. These teams could all be considered #1 in their own right. GameWyze has called Sidewinder their worst map while Check Six has always been relatively strong on the map. How do you feel coming into the match, and do you think you will be able to shut down GameWyze's snipers, mainly Hawk? x6-kaeXo: I don't think it's one of our strong maps. Before CPL, we bearly took down a weak TAU team on this map, 2-1. We have always despised DC and Sidewinder. I don't think their snipers, especially the "great" hawk, will be much of a problem for us. They will have some good kills on us, but I believe that jebus and I have a bit more experience and we will come out on top of the sniper wars. I am comfortable coming into this match, except for the fact that we are using a reserve player in a very important spot. If stivic can play his spot well, I'm confident we will win. Who will start for Check Six and where will they be playing? x6-kaeXo: jEbUs (borelli) -sniper What do you think will be the keys of the match? Is there anything Check Six has done differently in order to win the match? x6-kaeXo: Spawn blocks and double pistol area. Whoever holds these will win. Also, quick cap as Red can change things up pretty quickly. Shoutouts? x6-kaeXo: Redbull.com & [THoR] - BARTZ |
