Peter Harlan's interview with David "bloodlust" Gollner II about Wat¿'s playoff match with Duality.
|2|bloodlust: Well for starters we were a bunch of people who all played for different teams, and thus it took some time to get used to each other, and know everyone's strong/weak points in game. With the new make up of people we had to figure where we could do the most damage. Thankfully enough during our off time, since we didn't make it into the playoffs we were able to find our positions that we could do the most damage for each map. Many people don't really know a whole lot about Duality other than the fact they used to be clan dc. Could you give a brief history about Duality? |2|bloodlust: Duality orignally formed after Tok3n was cut from ClanDC. ClanDC decided they wanted us to move over to UT2K4, which as you can see, did not happen. Duality was put together with all veterans from the Cal-Halo preseason 1. Hailing from eLe; Belldandy, Bloodlust (which went to ClanDC after week 5 of Season 1), lxs: Sado, Bozz, and lastly ClanDC; Tok3n, MrWiggles. Throughout the season, I was able to bring Basic and Singleshot back to the game. Two members also from eLe. Currently we plan on attending summer CPL '04. This season Duality has been one of the biggest surprises. After a disappointing 5-3 record last season as clan dc; Duality was able to come out of nowhere this season. What are the biggest differences between this season's team and last season? |2|bloodlust: Well for starters we were a bunch of people who all played for different teams, and thus it took some time to get used to each other, and know everyone's strong/weak points in game. With the new make up of people we had to figure where we could do the most damage. Thankfully enough during our off time, since we didn't make it into the playoffs we were able to find our positions that we could do the most damage for each map. Last season, Belldandy and I joined ClanDC's ranks at the end of week 5 where they had a record of 3-2. I don't see how 5-3 is disappointing considering our division had a three way tie for division champs. A lot of the playoff spots were close because of the 5-3 record for season one. Our team last season made a new goal for ourselves. Make it to the playoffs, and while many teams took the post-season off, we continued to play in our server, even opening it up to the public and practicing against them when a scrim could not be found. The biggest difference from last season is we didn't have the time to really merge as a team. I believe this season has really shown where we are now. Recently you have returned from a 6-week stint with the navy. During that time away, Duality won some big matches; beating TAU and Eminence 3-2. Have you noticed any significant changes in the team since your return? |2|bloodlust: Most definately! I couldn't be more proud of my guys, and how they really stepped up without me. Attendance has increased, as well as the number of scrims we get in a day. We may lost the last two games of the season, but they (Duality) have shown what they are can do without me. During the season Duality picked up basic who was one of the top players before last CPL. How has his return affected your team and are you at all afraid your team will be negatively affected by his absence at CPL? |2|bloodlust: Duality can thank me for that pick up. I stayed in contact with him even after he left Halo. He has contributed what the team needed, and the results show for themselves. As far as his absence from CPL, any team is affected when one of their starters can't make it to a match, whether it is on lan or online. Plus you can't overlook the fact that I was also gone for 6 weeks and they turned a lot of eyes. Am I afraid you ask? Most people will say, "they should be," but again, lan is something different with halo. I was lucky enough to set up a lan onboard the ship while I was gone. The gameplay was something else, so who knows what we have in store. After the CPL, many teams have said they will quit halo. Will you be playing in the 3rd season of CAL? Will Duality? |2|bloodlust: The future of halo really determines Duality's future. As for me, I will be sticking it out for another season. There just isn't any games out or coming out that interest me for multiplayer competition. This week's map is Danger Canyon, a map that is known for its stress on teamwork and heavy weapons. Wat? has been considered the best Danger Canyon team for over half a year and Duality has never really been considered period. What do you think will be the keys of the match that will allow you guys to take down Wat? |2|bloodlust: Map control and the first two minutes. After that, holding your position is most critical. Sniping and middle man being the most important. It's crazy how one person can control the momentum of the match. Keep the heavies moving, staying in one spot to long, and the opponent can sometimes overwhelm you. Lastly, base defense, if only halo had a spectator mode, I would so love to watch base defense. That person needs to keep their cool under the worse of pressures. Possible pushes from inside with heavies, or even a vehicle rush from the front. If we can keep up those three positions, I believe this game will come down to the final seconds to determine a winner. Who will start for Duality and where will they be playing? |2|bloodlust: Tok3n - inside Not many people know this about you, but you use a trackball as opposed to a regular mouse. Could you explain why you opt for a trackball over the mouse? |2|bloodlust: I save loads of cash without having to buy a new mousepad or a new mouse when the next edition comes out for it. No actually, my dad always enjoyed it, and I thought that these were the only mouses in the world, until junior high when I went through a computer class. I was like, "hey man, what is this supposed to be?" I can use a regular mouse, it's just that in the end, I perfer the comfort of knowing I don't have to worry about running out of pad or getting my wire stuck when I move my mouse around. Or for you wireless people, my batteries dying on me. I remember one scrim when a certain someone said, "crap guys, I can't look around anymore my mouse batteries just died and I don't have any more." Shoutouts? |2|bloodlust: mmptr - holla for the good times and the ones to follow |
