By: George Kaspiris - Published April 27, 2005 at 9:06 PM EDT - Writer Archive
You can now View (http://www.thecpl.com/register/byoc.php?.. the number of available BYOC spots for the The Cyberathlete® Extreme Summer Championships 2005, taking place July 6 to July 10 at the new Gaylord Texan Resort in Grapevine, Texas. The large summer BYOC will power and connect a total of 1,500 computers, excluding tournament, staff, sponsor and press computers.

BYOC is an acronym for Bring Your Own Computer; and is the open LAN section of the CPL events. You simply bring your computer to the event, hook up via Ethernet to the ultra-fast local area network, and play games for five days with gamers from 56 different countries. To ease "transportation load" you can also rent a monitor from CPL's authorized rental partner: http://www.thecpl.com/summer2005/rentals.pdf

Some registrants attend the BYOC only, while competitors often add BYOC to their registration so they can practice and scrimmage between matches. The games available in the BYOC vary per event, but always include a large selection.

The online registration is located at www.thecpl.com/register/

The BYOC for the Summer Event will be configured, deployed and managed by The Planet and Insomnia365. The network equipment is provided by D-Link and category 5 network cabling by L-com.
