With the odd exception the PainKiller tournament has been a rather more predictable affair than the Counter-Strike. Vo0 Fat again reach the upper bracket finals of the CPL WT for the 3rd successive event whilst the UK's Zaccubus finally breaks into the top six. The Vo0/Fatal1ty final wont be too surprising to anyone following the PK scene, the two have been locked in some gripping final encounters for the past few stops on the CPL world tour. Fatal1ty, the golden child of the CPL WT against Vo0, the golden child of PainKiller. The last CPL saw Fatal1ty come out ahead after Vo0 fell foul of World of Warcraft addiction. This time Vo0 has been in training, and training hard, yet Fatal1ty is still a player famous for living his life by a code of practice, practice, practice. Of the top six seeds leading into to this competition only five have actually made it into the top six. SK's SteLam suffered a lower bracket 4th round defeat to Booms, who was later eliminated by the UK's 10th seed Zaccubus. Zaccubus has found some brilliant form in the competition, form that has seen him conquer Daler, forrest and Booms in straight maps. Zaccubus has been an ever-imposing presence at the CPL WT rising from three consecutive 9th - 12th finishes, to top 8 twice and now, finally, a top six placing. If this trend is continued he could find himself significantly richer by the end of November. The lower bracket games pit 4K's Zaccubus against fnatic's Ztrider and the SK's zyz against 4th seed Stermy. Those looking for exciting close encounters would do well to seek out the replays of the game between Check6 dj and fnatic Gellehsak. Games are rarely close when the scores end 18 - 19 and 14 - 16. PainKiller appears to have a countdown timer over it's head reducing by a digit at each WT stop. If the end of the CPL WT in November is also the end of PainKiller, then it can only be hoped the friendly players that formed great bonds with eachother through this competition will continue to play at the highest levels of duelling in whichever game is chosen by the CPL next year. |
