PainKiller: CPL World Tour receives facelift

CPL China and former CPL Germany undergo massive changes as the World Tour tries to adapt to each country's reaction to their main game Painkiller.
A big day of changes for the CPL World Tour as two stops make major overhauls. The first massive change is the cancellation of the CPL China event. Recent announcement of the ban on Painkiller, the World Tour’s primary game, in China drastically hurt the country’s chances of continuing to host one of the Tour stops. CPL still plans to host an event in an Asian country to replace CPL China. Details will be released next week.

The second news item of the day came with the announcement that the formerly name CPL Germany would now be called CPL Italy. The CPL changed locations to Milan, Italy for its October tour stop which takes place October 20th-23rd. The event will take place during the Smau 2005 convention at the Milan Fair Portello halls. Smau 2005 is reminiscent of the CES (Consumer Electronics Show) that showcases different electronic products but on a smaller scale.

“The CPL partners encountered critical logistical challenges with the proposed venue, and with the use of Painkiller (a Mature-rated game) in Germany,” stated a CPL press release on the CPL Germany cancellation.

Both CPL China and CPL Germany were forced to make changes to their event due to the mature rating of Painkiller. The CPL’s President Angel Munoz was disappointed with the stand countries are taking towards his league’s world tour game and in a recent interview done on GotFrag stated the CPL China's World Tour stop was in doubt.

“I personally think it is wrong to ban a game like Painkiller, but moving into the future, I'm committed to working closer with the different countries (including the USA) to dispel the myths that surround gaming and to help get more factual information to them,” said Munoz, “so that the growth of e-sports is not negatively impacted by misguided information.”

With the event in Italy now confirmed and details expected soon, the World Tour has one more confirmed location, CPL Chile, that is expected to take place a weekend after the CPL Italy stop. Chile’s dates run from October 28th-30th according to the CPL’s World Tour website. This gives players attending both events only five days to travel between Milan and Santiago, Chile, host site for the CPL event.

According to Munoz the players have been informed ahead of time about this schedule issue and still plan to attend both events because he feels its a once in a lifetime opportunity to travel the world.
