PainKiller: CPL WT Finals kick off

By: Jason Bass - Published November 20, 2005 at 3:06 AM EST - Writer Archive
In just under twelve hours, the Grand Finals for the CPL 2005 Painkiller World Tour will begin. Thirty two of the best Painkiller players are in New York to battle it out for $500,000.

I am live here in New York where registration for the World Tour Finals has just begun. In about one hour the players will square off for their chance at the $150,000 grand prize to be awarded to the player crowned the grand champion of the World Tour in PainKiller. After a year of exciting Painkiller competition, the finals are here at last. The last stop of the World Tour in Chile saw a shakeup in the rankings as neither Voo nor Fatal1ty were in the finals. This comes at a great time to make the finals that much more interesting. Before CPL Chile it looked to be a two horse show as to who would win the $150,000 grand prize this weekend in New York. It still may be Voo or Fatal1ty but now we have the possibility of a couple of players giving a strong run at winning the whole thing. One thing is for sure, this weekend will see the crowning of World Tour Champion and the largest cash prize given to an individual since the inception of Professional Gaming. Whether you are a fan of PainKiller or not you can not deny the history in the making in New York this weekend. This is a huge step for eSports with such large purse on the line.

After the last stop the question becomes who will win? The clear favorite has to be Vo0. Fatal1ty has had a strong showing in the world tour thus far and can not be counted out. A few weeks ago in Chile we saw only Gellahsack and Ztrider step it up and get to the finals where Ztrider came out victorious. The waters have been muddied, it will most likely be one of the four players mentioned, but when this much money is on the line look for anyone of the 32 contestants to step up their game and come out on top. We will finally have our answer this Tuesday.
