The most celebrated Painkiller player of all time has retired from gaming on his 21st birthday. Kaasjager will be remembered for his dominant performance on the CPL World Tour where he won five of the nine tour stops and collected an impressive $232,000. Aside from a grand finals loss to Jonathan “Fatal1ty” Wendell, Vo0 was the unquestioned best player on the tour. Kaasjager even captured the tournament MVP and a $20,000 bonus from Intel. Fnatic teammate Alexander "Ztrider" Ingarv and winner of the Painkiller Chile World Tour stop had many positive words to say about Sander. “[A]s a person he's always someone you can have fun with, he gives one great support when you play and always cheers on you when you play which is a great quality that he has,” Ingarv said of Kaasjager. In 2005, Kaasjager and his rival Wendell were the faces of the Deathmatch community. Kaasjager was featured in several media outlets including CBS’s 60 Minutes and MTV Overdrive, which covered the CPL World Tour Finals. Many expected him to transition to Quake 4 and compete on the second CPL World Tour. Kaasjager did not compete at CPL Winter 2005, and he later dropped out of Eurocup's Quake 4 duel league. With no World Tour for 2006, it seemed ever more unlikely that Kaasjager would play Quake 4 professionally. As the winner of ESWC 2004, CPL Winter 2004, five CPL World Tour stops and numerous other tournaments, Sander “Vo0” Kaasjager retires as the most decorated Painkiller player and one of the most successful gamers of all time. You did well. :)
I remember I randomly messaged him over IRC, asking about the mousepad that he used, and he was very forthcoming and personable.
I wish him the best of luck in the rest of his life, as charming and dedicated as he is, I'm sure he'll go far.
he showed up at of nowhere for 1 world tour, robbed the esports community of all its money and bounced to celebrate his 21st birthday..
LOL
