The official beta patch from ID Software of the upcoming Quake 4 1.4 point release. The 1.4 point release will incorporate six MAJOR changes to Quake 4, including the launch of Quake 4 TV(Q4TV). The five other major components of the patch include FPS increasements, hitbox modifications, a overhall of the sound egine, changes to the railgun and a different randomization to the shotgun spread.
You can now have the oddon maps be servers directly out of your game server (the install directory). You can server the files from the game server itself.

-with this patch on average I'm pinging about 20 seconds higher than in 1.3 - up to 150 servers as of today - admins still tweaking - when servers are full - the si_fps 125 is brutally lagging the server - get the rubber band effect- two steps forward three steps back, or you try and jump and get pushed back down. - crouch strafe feels same as 1.3 - rail 5 slugs 90 damage - seems like knockback has been raised far to high with the rocket launcher - seems excessive - I didn't check the def file but it feels like it - Q4max may once again save id's butt with this one. - the net code has just got to get cleaner- -maybe id should host a few servers and show the community how it should be done. Cause I don't see it happening.

changes really aren't that big, if you didn't like quake 4 before.. this isn't going to change anything for you. and if you did like quake4? well double fps is nice :)

EDIT: looks to have patched fine straight from retail to 1.4beta :D
