We’ve seen various posts of this type wandering through the forums and on IRC, and thought we’d give it a home. We encourage everyone to post in these forums and share deals with the community! However, there are some guidelines for this forum which we will be enforcing rigorously. We will ban anyone caught not following these guidelines.
POSTING GUIDELINES
Please only post threads for HARDWARE deals you have found—nothing else.
If you are not sure what would might be a “Hot Deal”, here are some examples:
- Discount coupon(s) on vendor sites - Price+Rebate situation - Linking to store ads which contain a good deal on a product(s) - Premium deals for certain groups of people (IE: employees of a store). Please specify any limitation to the deal in the post. See below for additional guidelines concerning posting for your own employer.
Coupons and Promotional Codes
Allowed:
- Links to coupons on the issuing vendor's own site. - Links to scans of coupons, ONLY if they invite you to share them. Do not post ANY stating that copies or reproductions are not allowed.
Not Allowed:
- Coupons or promotional NUMBERS. - Requests for others to post or send you coupon NUMBERS or offers to send them to anyone else.
Other posts not allowed:
- Links to pay to surf or pay for referral sites, whether paid in cash or premiums. - Links to any form of an auction site. - Links to deals, promotions or offers by your own business or your employer. This is not a sales area for your business—contact sales (at) gotfrag.com if you are interested in advertising. - Links to gambling sites, tobacco products or pornographic or sexually explicit materials. - Links to offers of OEM software without qualifying hardware or to software licenses without a qualifying installation disk (CD, etc.). - Links to group buys—we have seen that these do not work on other sites and have elected to not allow them here. - Links which require you to refer others to a site or program to get the discount, or anyone who offers you gratuities, free goods or products for referring others to them.
Profiles and Signatures
You may not post any link to your business or any type of promotion in your profile or signature.
Real Deals?
If you are unsure whether a deal is real or a mistake, don’t post it at all! If you really want to find out, please contact the company and ask them. If the deal turns out to be real, feel free to then post it. However, please do not discuss any ways to bypass limitations on a deal.
Consumer Rights
If a company has acted dishonestly, fraudulently, or in any other illegal fashion towards you, threads discussing legal ways to enforce your rights are a valid and important topic for discussion.
If a company posts a deal and then cancels it for reasons such as a pricing error, before you scream for blood or go looking for a lawyer, consider the circumstances:
- Did the original ad contain enough information to show that the company knew (or should have known) the true value of the items offered and the amount of the discount they were offering? - Did the company announce the cancellation in a timely manner? - Did the company offer any reasonable compensation (discount, gift certificate, etc.) to those who were legitimately inconvenienced by their actions? - Does the company have a documented history of "bait-and-switch" or other questionable tactics? If, after considering these questions, you believe a company has acted dishonestly or fraudulently, we welcome threads discussing your rights and legal ways to enforce them. Please remember: - Uninformed rants and misinformation accomplish nothing and will be nuked. - Calls for illegal acts of retaliation can only lead to trouble. Those who engage in such acts may lose any rights they had and end up with legal problems of their own. - If a bunch of greedy people actually manage to hurt a good company, it will only ruin future good deals for everyone. Try to keep all posts about a given problem in one thread. If you start a consumer action thread, you get to maintain it. If the thread gets too long, start a continuation thread, and post links from old thread to the new one and from the new thread back to the old one.
Are negative comments towards a deal allowed?
You may post what could be considered a “negative” comments IF:
- You know a "hot deal" is a scam. - The post contains improper or broken links, such as click-through referrals, etc. If you know a working link for the SAME deal, reply in the thread. - Other miscellaneous reasons include free offers for subscriptions which begin billing you after the trial period. - Certain vendors have a bad reseller rating—it is acceptable to warn a fellow user of this. As usual, the standard GotFrag posting guidelines still apply! Enjoy the forum!
