Well just wanted to share my experiences in trying CS 1.6 after playing Source for years. English is not my mother tongue so excuse me my english. =)

Got Source 2005. Have only played it only on pubs but have some clan experience from CoD and BF2. I know clan matches are different bla bla bla ok.

Anyway, I got really good at Source, "pub hero" :/

I watch eSports so I know all this CS:S vs 1.6 war. So 1.6 players have played for over 10(?) years and say 1.6 is better and all that. Finally I did buy it about a week ago - only ten bucks.

Expectations from a Source player? I thought players could be better. Netcode/playability could be better. I expected to get owned being a "CS:S noob".

First night I thought oh shit! I get owned constantly. Love it! Challenge! First thing you notice is that hitboxes and models seem to be smaller. Harder to hit anyone. In Source I could flash and spray down guys alone. Ahh but not in cs 1.6.

Flashes are not as good in 1.6 (which is a good thing), 1.6 AWP is good but somehow not as good as in Source. 1.6 hitboxes are smaller, you really have to aim if you want a headshot.

Ok so my Source pub tactic of spraying every f**** ***** down was not working. So I tweaked rates and max fps and all that config crap. Went to 800x600 because high resolution doesnt seem to matter much in 1.6.

Most important thing was to change playstyle. Shorter bursts, as you dont get much accidental headshots via long spray. Now I know why some people say Source is "easier". Slightly different spraying style - you still have to spray in some situations. Walling - continue shooting even when the guy is behind a corner, knowing the "walling spots".

These things took about three nights and voila! 1.6 players (pub) are not smarter. They are not generally better aimers - oh ok maaaaaaybe slightly because of smaller hitboxes mean they had to learn how to aim better.. So if you are a Source master don't be afraid of 1.6 "pros". =)

Now after about a week I can be in top3 in stats *proud* :) (still hard time to be consistent though).

1.6 is a new and fun challenge, glad I bought it. They are not the same game but are very similar.

So if you have Source and want to try 1.6, go ahead. They are both great games. Only 10 bucks!

My final verdict: It seems harder to be super good at 1.6 basically because hitboxes are smaller. You need a bit more accurate aim to really wtfpwn everybody. But I'll keep trying. -) I didnt notice much difference in network code quality when settings are good.

I don't know why I wrote this. Maybe just excited about my new game. Cheers, and don't fight. I still like Source too.

Edit: Oh crap, should of put this to Counter-Strike forum.

I have source, but don't play it because of bad computer. When I did play it though the recoil seemed better, and d2 seemed smaller. The game play in 1.6 seems faster as well. Anyways get used to trying to wall a little more in 1.6.
You receive loot: [Flame Resistant Breastplate].

It seems like you anticipated too much in your arguement to avoid getting flamed by 1.6 players.
Anyways, good stuff. I prefer the awp in 1.6, although the scope delay is rather bothersome. The flashes are fun though you can actually turn away from them! haaha no more of this "WOW BLIND FOR 9 YEARS" business
