EDIT- Apologies, I meant to say H.264, and x264 in my subject. NOT h.262 or x262. Anyways. Continuing.

This is not pertinent to counter-strike, but because of the immense movie making community this game has engulfed, I decided to ask my video compression questions on here because of the many skilled codec wizzes out there. If I wanted to make a HDV movie with my HDV camera, how do I compress it into a H.264 codec. I still am a bit confused about the difference between H.264, x264, MPEG-4, even after hours of researching. I have downloaded many codecs for it and encoders. But I still have no Idea what the process would be to compress my movie into one oof those file formats. Which do YOU think is the superior? I use Vegas Video 8 Pro. My first thought was to render my movie file as uncompressed, and using a separate H.264, x264, or MPEG-4 encoder to get the result i want? Your inputs on this subject will be greatly appreciated.

From vegas (Until V7.0 that i tried) i couldnt compress straight to x264, instead i used a mp4.bat that, compressing a .avi from vegas (without sound), and the sound aparte (i think .wma) it mixed up into a .mp4 file, you should search in "own-age" forum, there is a REALLY long thread explaining how to compress in x264 (explaining all the details).
