Clearly 2007 plays a huge roll in the first ever GotFrag WoW 3v3 World Rankings. Pandemic was far and away the best team last year and they earn all the first place votes to sweep the top spot. It wasn’t nearly as clean below as many teams claimed 2nd place votes but MoB TurtleForce established themselves as the clear 2nd best. After those two it was a melee for the rest of the spots with Nihilum earning the 6th spot. A lot of eyes will be on them at MLG San Diego.

After the constant IRC harassment (by yours truly) of many dedicated and respectable TF2 players and community members, GotFrag is proud to release the first installment of the North American TF2 Rankings. These rankings will become a fixture of the GotFrag TF2 section, and will be updated regularly throughout the year at times that are deemed appropriate. The list has been determined by polling many players, community members, league admins and media folk who all submitted their top10 lists, which was then combined in a points-system to produce this list.
It comes as no surprise that Pandemic sits atop the first installment of the GotFrag TF2 Rankings with 100% of the first place votes after capturing both the CEVO Season 3 title and the ESEA Season 2 crown. It also comes as no shock that their opponents in both those matches, compLexity, sit squarely in the #2 stop with all of the 2nd place votes - though many submitters commented that either team could go 1,2 on any given night.
The middle of the list gets much tighter as Evil Geniuses, 20id and Apoplexy Industries all vie for a spot at the big kids table, with EG's solid performance in the regular season portion of CEVO S3 perhaps giving them the edge over two teams that are returning after some time away (AI for 1 season, 20id for a big longer).
Initial lists had the ill-faited Dynamic/iDemise fiasco well entrenched with those teams mentioned above, but with their collapse many of the votes ended up splitting between those three, though vPolice still managed to make the list based purely on the power of their name and its history. For the most part, the bottom half of the list is anyone's best guess, but Zilla Gaming CEVO-A crown no doubt played a factor in their seperation from the 9th and 10th spots.

Johan "toxic" Quick's dominance through all of 2006 made him the top choice by every single voter except for one, placing a nearly perfect score. No one could defeat Quick in 2006 and everyone feels he will at least start off the same way in 2007. America's Jason "socrates" Sylka took second with strong showings at the end of the year with a second place finish at WCG and a third place finish at the WSVG finals. Anton "Cooller" Singov and Alessandro "Stermy" Avallone were right below that with strong finishes throughout all of 2006, though both players slipped from the top spots in the latter stretch of the year. After second and third place finishes at WSVG qualifiers and the WCG finals respectively, Avallone finished a disappointing 5-6th place at the WSVG finals. Magnus "fojji" Olsson takes the next spot as one of the few players to give Quick a real run for his money when they faced off. Polish wonder boy Maciej "av3k" Krzykowski and the American Steel Rafik "LoSt-CaUzE" Bryant were next on the list of competitors. Krzykowski finished the year off strong with a win at the Poznan Invitational over Sylka, while Bryant faltered at the WSVG finals, claiming 7-8th place. Alex "Ztrider" Ingarv, Alexey "Cypher" Yushanevsky and Ivo "forever" Lindhout take the last spots with Sabian "Clamp-ok" Hayblum just one point shy of the top 10. WSVG finalist Jay "2GD" Harding fell behind the pack, many weary of his RSI injury and his current form.
Most notably missing from the list is of course the famed Johnathan "Fatal1ty" Wendel. With his recent signing onto the Championship Gaming Series to be the league's official commentator, his status for the 2007 Quake 4 circuit is currently unknown. Because of this, voters were asked not to include him in their votes. The 1.4 patch has also arrived with many vital game play changes, most notably the reduction of damage and ammo to the railgun. This may have also effected voters confidence in some players, which will be seen in the forthcoming months.

The North American rankings came down to the last two spots between three people. Evan "Nomadic" Bradshaw, Tom "griffin" Wall and Chance "chance" Lacina were all in contention for the last placings. Although Bradshaw had announced his retirement earlier this year, he has noted that there is a good chance he will be playing again, and picked up the third spot. Wall and Lacina both caused upsets including at DigitalLife where they defeated Harding and Bryant, respectively. Lacina is thought to be the more consistent of the two and picked up the last spot on the rankings.

The top two were a lot closer then some might have expected. Doctors’ clear domination over TcS in the GGL Online Qualifier combined with Doctors’ win at Digitallife wasn’t enough for some CAL teams. Still Headshot and Exigent, both not in CAL, manage to earn the 3rd and 4th spots after both had top three finishes in their last events. The top CAL teams, Kinetic and zhr, came in next just ahead of DH, reformed emulate and dfr. The last place wasn’t without some intrigue as HOT and Fortius tied with 16 points. HOT had eight people vote for them versus only seven for Fortius giving them the edge.

The first thing we notice about the rankings is that mTw is sitting atop its rightful perch above the rest of the world. After securing five first place finishes at LAN events last year (the most for any team), including wins at World eSports Masters and WCG 2008, they completed the year with ten top ten finishes at LAN events and making them a fairly easy choice.
Rounding out the top three are SK Gaming and Mousesports, who both made nice gains up the standings. SK Gaming, fresh off their year-end win at Dreamhack and pulling in the 2nd most in earnings for the year, has them sitting at number two. Mousesports on the other hand came in with four first place finishes on the year, and essentially had the most consistent year, good enough for number three.
Places four and five appear to be the disappointing stories of 2008, but more so for different reasons. fnatic, despite making it to more LANs than any other team, and obtaining the most top ten finishes on the year, just didn't get the podium success that one would expect. They did, however, enjoy some modicum of success for a decent year overall; this result allows them to only lose one placing since the last ranking. With Meet Your Makers, the former #1, it's a different story. While they showed some consistency on the year, and got a win at a packed ESWC 2008, the performances didn't seem to be dominating. Even given their other victories, it wasn't enough to overshadow the other teams and their stellar performances, leaving MYM with a bitter fall down four spots.
e-STRO made a huge jump in this edition of the rankings, up four spots to number six after a solid year. While they don't attend many events, they attend the important ones and place at essentially every one. For Made in Brazil, it might be a year to forget. The team seemed to be battling themselves all year and their performances didn't change their place in the rankings this time around. With a recent roster change, they will look to turn things around for this year. For Gameplay (not really Gameplay anymore) and Team Alternate, there were flashes of what they are capable of, but it never really amounted to anything on the year for them, leaving them in the number eight and nine spots.
The top ten finishes off with Evil Geniuses. Not very much can be said here as they haven't even played a match yet, but on paper, it appears that this team has a lot behind them. Everyone will be watching closely when they finally suit up for their first event of 2009.

The dust has settled after the first season of CGS in North America, and all six of the CGS franchises have made their way into the top 10. LA Complexity continues to be the team to beat and there are no signs of that changing anytime soon. The San Francisco OPTX, formerly team EFGaming, has garnered a lot of praise after finishing right behind Los Angeles in the CS:Source CGS standings. The new Pandemic managed to drop only one spot by rallying to win Summer CPL’s BYOC tournament after a poor showing at the combine and a performance dry spell under the Forbidden banner.
The Carolina Core has become a major surprise thus far, as Dolven’s pick in the draft was widely viewed with skepticism--but they’ve gotten a strong start in CEVO P. The Chicago Chimera are the CGS champs, but that was mainly due to the strength of their franchise. Nonetheless, they’ve moved up in the rankings due to their title and some roster additions.
The One Eyed Zomblerz continues to sit in the middle of the rankings due to a long list of LAN accomplishments and a superb performance at the CGS combine. Hyper! remains in the top 10 despite questions about how their roster changes will affect them. New York 3D has dropped several points due to mediocre performance in the CGS and signs that they don’t seem very motivated.
Turmoil, the team widely known as Devastation, has made it back to the rankings after being dropped the last time around. Finally, the Dallas Venom were able to hold on to 10th place for the third consecutive poll—they rank just well enough to make the list, but not quite enough to be respected as a contender.

It’s been a while since the rankings have been updated … and not a whole lot has changed at the top two spots. x3o is still fighting EG for the top spot in North America and is still one step behind. EG’s qualification for and performance at the KODE5 finals in Russia cemented their place at the top. Yet x3o and MoB’s qualification for ESWC will give these two teams a chance to overshadow EG if EG doesn’t qualify for ESWC at the ESWC Masters event in Paris (controversy aside). Rounding out the top five are two upstart teams that have grown in talent over the past few months. Sway Gaming has grown from being on the outskirts of greatness to one of the best teams in North America, and 50|Cal absorbed some of the better East Coast talent in order to take them to the next level. EG Canada’s roster moves have strengthened the team significantly since KODE5, and the return of the old zEx lineup to CS 1.6 has pushed the Guardians team straight into the top 10 without a performance under their belt. Rounding out the top 10 are the rebuilding squads Iniquity and Mug-N-Mouse and the up and coming team iPlay.zoi.

The reasons for the European Ranking directly relate to the World Ranking. So instead of retreading old territory I’ll discuss the teams not on the World Ranking. Virtus Pro with their powerful 3/5 Ukrainian roster comes in at 9th. Despite their recent troubles they have proven time and time again that they are the best in Russia and the countries that surround it. However they are losing their grasp as new talent is appearing on the scene and threatening their throne. Just look at KODE5 where Hell Raisers placed higher than they did. Rounding out the top ten is SoA who surprised the world by eliminating fnatic from the Extreme Masters Two group stage. They have under gone some roster changes since that stellar upset but still managed to place on par with fnatic and Alternate at Dreamhack.

Hacker.GM took full advantage of Star.ex not attending CPL Winter to turn its USA tour into a roaring success. After upsetting a few top teams in New York for WSVG Finals, they then went to Dallas where they put on a show placing as the highest Asian team. Project_kr was a step behind at CPL Winter and now in the ranking. Star.ex could have been a bigger story then Hacker.GM but never took the journey. XcN still holds onto the 5th spot as wNv.cn was a total bust at WSVG.

Is anybody shocked to see Evil Geniuses retain their position at the head of the class? Of course not. These guys have won everything they have competed in lately, building an impressive streak of championships that rivals any former CoD great. Likewise, it comes as no surprise that their perennial runner-up, Team Pandemic, lock up the two spot. Pandemic were second in the first top ten poll, second in CEVO-P, second in TGL-P, second at NERV 2, and it is only fitting that they remain in second on this updated list. However, both EG and Pandemic will be making the trip to Europe soon so we are likely to see them continue to go at it. Coming in at number 3 is MoBgaming. While the team may be dead now, they were alive during polling and they were certainly alive during the time that the poll considers. Despite their disappointment at NERV, MoB had a reputation as one of the best and they held to this name one final time in TGL-P playoffs where they were two rounds shy of defeating EG 2-0.
Typically, the top three vote getters are noticeably separated from the rest of the field and then there is a race between fourth and fifth. That is clearly not the case this month as 50cal, formerly Dynamo, fall into the four spot a single point shy of MoB. Regardless, with MoB out of the picture presently, 50cal may rightly consider themselves to be the third best team in North America. Moving down the list we see x3o and FocaL in fifth and sixth respectively. These two clubs have been on the scene competing in top divisions together since early on. Making their first showing on the rankings at number seven is MoBdeep. Here is a team that received as many top five votes as they did tenth place votes. Clearly, the community is split on where to rank the third place NERV finishers in the wake of their roster overhaul.
The final three teams join MoBdeep in being new to the list. Iconic, formerly Sinister, retooled their roster following NERV, gained entry to CEVO-Professional, and have been impressive of late. They, like MoBdeep, have ample opportunity to move right up through the rankings pending a successful CEVO-P season. Despite having only matched twice, Sirefrosty’s new club chalks up the ninth position. Will this new team reclaim the former glory of their 20id.CoD2 days? Coming in at ten is another new addition to CEVO-Professional, Seraphic. After roster issues surrounding NERV, this side has regrouped and will be taking CEVO-P very seriously in an attempt to climb the ladder. With the league beginning one week from today, all eyes will be on North America’s best as they battle it out twice a week. Just outside of the top then this time are Esomenic, makeSHIFT, Maingear, and Legacy.

Consistency is the order of the day as the new MYM squad take the top spot in our latest European rankings. Despite the fact that they have yet to place first at a major event, MYM have shown a staying power that rivals Dignitas and fnatic have yet to display. Although at least one win is likely to be needed this Summer for the UK side to hang on to the top spot, for now they deserve it after two great performances at CDC4 and i33. Second place fnatic were perhaps unlucky at i33, losing twice in overtime, but will have been devestated to finish outside the top three and it has cost them the top spot here. The return of Rickard "zEm" Intveld will surely improve the team in the long run but it looked like i33 came too soon for fnatic.
Dignitas on the other hand looked unstoppable at i33 but another strong performance is needed to confirm the potential of their new lineup. Bas "SKO" Dirks has been a revelation for the side, taking them from outsiders to champions with a style of play that allows the likes of "Blackmane" and "Raz" to really shine. eSuba take the fourth spot after Dignitas following their eminently impressive performance at CDC4. With so much talent on their roster, the Czechs are a definite dark horse to take home a major title this Summer. The side formerly known as oXmoze take fifth after a string of consistent finishes.
Two big names sit in sixth and seventh, TEK9 and SK-Gaming. Both are undeniably talented but have yet to really step up when it counts. TEK9 in particular have been wraught with inactivity and were forced to use a stand-in at i33, seeing them drop five places from the last Call of Duty rankings. LowLandLions in eighth are in a similar position, their big lineup change has cost them in the rankings and they need to perform this Summer to stay in the top ten. Ninth placed Roskilde performed admirably at both CDC4 and i33 but just need to work on their mentality in playoff matches if they want to keep growing. Finally, EXABYTE sit in tenth after a strong showing at i33 and honorable mention goes to DCC-Gaming for their performance at CDC4.
