Over the next few weeks GotFrag will be surveying the state of eSports in Asian countries. How far behind (or ahead of) the times are they?
It is common knowledge in the world of E-sports that the Chinese have succeeded in getting their games banned by the Commies, the Americans battle weekly with the Swedes for bragging rights, the Korean government has made Starcraft it's national sport, and the Brits have never won a CPL.
What exactly is going on then when all of a sudden Korea takes 2nd at CPL and WEG3 while China takes 1st at WEG3? And did anyone remember Kazakhstan getting 2nd while Malaysia got 5-8th at WCG?
Why now? Why did the Asian teams not make such a dramatic appearance earlier? How come after the Americans and Europeans finally settled down into their comfy chairs did the Asians put them back on their feet again?
In this article I will discuss some of the reasons how and why this invasion is taking place, as well as the commercial and sociological implications of the issue.
