Michael "Baka" Lau's traveling series continues with an examination of Taiwan. ![]() An area filled with political turmoil and economical mishaps, there are within this secret domain hidden e-sports teams and players that may one day be the underdogs of international gaming. About Taiwan – ![]() The birth of Taiwan began during a civil war between the Communist party of China and the opposing Nationalist party, as they fought for political control over the country. The Communist party won the mainland in 1942 and thereafter, 2.2 million Nationalists fled to Taiwan and established their own government. Within half a decade, the Nationalists eventually incorporated the locals of Taiwan, and by 2000, they changed from a Nationalist government to a Democratic reign. Taiwan is now considered one of the most prosperous areas of South-East Asia as well as the world, but political turmoil still exists as China and Taiwan fiercely negotiate over the unification of both countries, politically and economically. Taiwan is a modern industrial metropolis flavoured with ancient culture and contained within magnificent mountainous scenery. It has traditional noodles from convenience stores, aboriginal tribes in mini-skirts, and a day of temple rituals followed by a night out at some of the hottest discos in the world. ![]() A combination of traditional arhitecture and modern skyscrapers defines the essence of Taiwan Facts of Taiwan Location: South East of China Total Area: 35,980 sq km Climate: Tropical Terrain: Two-thirds of land is rugged mountains, one-third is flat land. good lil' article that touches the surface of the taiwan gaming scene.
p.s. nice read

<3 Taiwan, but its unfortunate competitive gaming isn't big there
- Conveniently forget to tell the readers that Taiwan isn't recongnized as a country by the United Nations? GG
"Just take a look at Taiwanese corporate giants like ABIT and Shuttle; they’re sponsoring teams in Canada, China and the United States instead of their local community"
- They are sponsoring a local team, they're Chinese companies sponsoring Chinese teams. 1+1=2
and haha i dun even kno why im mentioned but yay!!! go taiwan!! a few years ago i have to say they all sucked realy bad but just this last summer i have to admit they are definately on par with the top teams of the world!
the chinese just has Mandarin and Cantonese and other local languages , never has the Taiwanese,
People both in china mainland and taiwan all speak Chinese ,
because we have the same culture.
just a game , but if Gotfrag could change the national flag of taiwan ,
at least it can avoid some controversy.
and in CS.
in my opinion , the former FF player Xanver was the best CS player in taiwan , i player with him once , he and his FF was indeed a very competitive player and team .
You caught us red handed! We are infact being paid off by the Department of Competitive Video Gaming (DCVG) in Taiwan to help increase the awareness of their land and we are being paid extra to target those that live in a land of conspiracies and bad spelling. So thank you especially for your assistance in this goal.
#27 Hey, lazyjai. Nice playing with you , too! hope we can have another game soon. :)
we played in the MYGO league a while back - was fun. GL!
rofl #22 changing the flag? wow.
your comment doesnt make any sense, HK also uses a different flag.
the flag also could mean area, do u see that?
pretty nice to see my name on gotfrag
but #45 is righT!!!
minighost is the best player :::::::::::::)
...
there's an online league that features a lil price $...
it is called the "SOC League"... but the quality of the servers and ping make the online competition very bad...
and there are a lot of people still using ex_interp .1 for some odd reasons when i was back there...
the lack of lan tournies obviously decrease the growth of eSports in Taiwan... all the players were pretty much preparing for 2 LANs, which are only held in SUMMER and is very competetive... =(
My Taiwanese team is in fact currently sponsored by "SHUTTLE", however, they're just providing an OFFICE w/ 5 Shuttles XPC for the team to practice, instead, what they need are financial aid and travel expenses to be able to compete in International tournaments.
anyways,
hi quaker!! good luck in Taiwan^_^
#17 - Seek help.
#22 - Indeed they do speak Taiwanese in Taiwan. It's somewhat close to fu-kanese.
#40 - The skyscraper is the Taipei "101" building. Currently the tallest building in the world.
