The Scene

As can be digested from the interview from the previous page, the gaming scene in Taiwan is lacking incentive and motivation.

It’s not surprising that many teams lack financial assistance to attend international tournaments. Just take a look at Taiwanese corporate giants like ABIT and Shuttle; they’re sponsoring teams in Canada, China and the United States instead of their local community. And these are only two of the many companies that choose to invest in the global market rather than their own origins.

What they don’t understand, however, is that Taiwan holds hidden talent and is only a few plane tickets and hotel accommodations away from international recognition as a dominating country in the world rankings of e-sports gaming.

Likewise, as up and coming Taiwanese teams and players realize that there is little hope for them to move outwards to compete, the gaming scene in Taiwan will eventually disintegrate, motivation will be lost and the e-sports community would lose a large group of supporters.

Look at players that travel from Taiwan to reside in North America - x[a]n and boGardon to name a couple; they are merely participants in the Taiwanese gaming scene, but upon arrival to the States, they are immediately participating in Premier teams and winning local LAN tournaments with ease. It shows the immense amount of talent and skills gamers in Taiwan have.

The LAN scene in Taiwan happens rarely, but when it does happen, expect fierce competition and dire determination

With that said, it’s imperative for event organizers such as the CPL, WSVG, ESWC etc., to include countries such as Taiwan, as there’s a huge market untapped and massive talent unrevealed. In the end, it’s all down to the premature e-sports community to be involved and to support.

Where to Next?

Up, up and away! Ladies and Gentlemen, we’re now off to Singapore where we visit the recent host of the WCG Finals and the land of extremely clean streets and peculiar language. Enjoy this short flight, have a cocktail, take a quick nap - but it wont be long before we’re out and about again!
