As ESWC announced on Thursday, GotFrag has been asked to provide some input into their selection process for the USA attendees to ESWC 2006. In order to provide as complete and informed input as possible, GotFrag will be working with the top experts and community websites in each respective game. The actual process will work in a three stage process. First, GotFrag will be speaking with respected Community members in each game to collect a “short list” of possible candidates from the applicants. GotFrag will then speak to these selected applicants to ensure that they are actually able to attend and pay for their own plane ticket. At this point, GotFrag will submit a vote to the community, leading experts and to players on the list. Both WCReplays.com for WC3 and ESReality for Q4 have already agreed to conduct polls on their websites for the applicants and we will be speaking with others moving forward. The Counter-Strike 1.6 polls will be conducted at GotFrag.com. The leading experts include representatives from WCReplays.com, ESReality.com, Radio iTG, GotFrag.com, and several other leading media organizations in e-sports. In addition, several players who are unable to attend ESWC 2006 will contribute their votes. The community will vote on the “short list” of players, accounting for 1/3 of the total, overall vote. The other 1/3 will come from the respected experts in the community and the final 1/3 coming from the players on the “short list”. The short list players will be asked to give their top selections not including themselves. This gives equal weight to input from everyone involved. When the process is finished GotFrag will submit the findings to ESWC for their evaluation and selection of the invites. The entire process will be private and for final review by Game-Services, the producers of ESWC 2006. Please note that the final decision is Game-Services. All parties involved in this process feel that this is the best solution for an unfortunate situation and we encourage everyone to participate in selecting this year’s ESWC 2006 attendees. Please stay tuned to this announcement for where to cast your vote and other updates. |

The process that has been conceived is quite reasonable in my opinion.
"Both WCReplays.com for WC3 and ESReality for Q4 have already agreed to conduct polls on their websites for the applicants and we will be speaking with others moving forward. "
I'll make it more specific for you next time around. But "others" in this case means GT4, Trackmania, Pro Evo soccor.
#7 If you honestly believe the process that was made is reasonable your a dolt. You know what, your not. Lets apply this process to ALL selective events from here on in. Sound good, figured youd like that. The only people getting screwed here is the people who had no say in anything at all. The Players.
weeeeoottwwwwwwww drinks are fun kids, get your bottle(s) today!
Holding and running a qualifier costs time, manpower and resources. Where do you suggest we pull all of that together for 6 different games? None of the media groups involved run tournaments. That's not what we do. And any other organizing body would have to license things from ESWC. Moreover, There's less than 45 days left before ESWC kicks off.
Given that people are supposed to buy their own plane tickets, arrange their schedules etc, and that air fare (which is already at $1200 on average round-trip to Paris), would you really like us to delay the selection process another 15-30days while we try to run qualifiers which we have no expertise in? Say we did that, now the winners from 6 different games, are going to have to pay 1500-1800 each to get there. Maybe more if it stretches out even farther.
The situation sucks. No one likes it. Not us at GotFrag. Not ESWC. Not GGL. Not any of the players. This is the best option available to us. Us meaning all the pro-gamers, the US fans and media organizations that would really love to have US teams and players at the event. How about you give us a little credit for trying to help out.
Think about what you're asking there. A LAN qualifier means people shelling out 300-500$ per person to get to the event, stay the 2-3 days for it. Then, IF THEY WIN, they have to shell out another 1500-1800 to go. You're basically proposing something which only sponsored teams/players can afford.
I don't like it any better than you do, but I applaud that everyone is banding together to help out with the solution which we've proposed.
Im an engineer student. If theres one thing i know, regardless of situation, conditions, whatever there is NEVER only one solution. And i am determined to find something better in a timely manner.
Since it only counts for 1/3rd everything should work out.
do you think everyone is like you? unresponsible? non-professional? they do it cause they love to and i'm sure they will chose the best from the best possible..
"OH! let's bring this "UnnamedPlayer1" instead of socrates, no one will notice " .. now i think this "UnnamedPlayer2" is fine too, he won his home lan a few days ago and participated in his school q4 tour, everyone is capable to see he's better than cha0ticz."
GET A LIFE !
that made me chuckle a bit
