All Games: GameSense 2.0 and GameSense Live! BETA

By: Lee Chen - Published July 08, 2006 at 12:47 PM EDT - Writer Archive
GotFrag is very happy (and a little nervous) to announce the BETA of GameSense 2.0 and GameSense Live! Read on to hear the latest features and how you can help us beta-test the newest version of GameSense and a whole new streaming stats interface, GameSense Live!

At the Winter 2004 CPL event, GotFrag debuted GameSense. Today, with over 2000 matches and more than 50 events in our system, we would like to welcome the community of e-sports fans to help us beta-test GameSense 2.0 and introduce GameSense Live.

GameSense 2.0 has been over a year in development and dramatically increases our ability deliver the most detailed and in-depth statistical results in competitive e-sports. In addition to updating GameSense with new features and a new layout, we’re introducing a completely new web-application, GameSense Live! which streams live GameSense stats to you as the game is happening.

Before I tell you all the cool new things that both these applications can do (and where you can find it), I want to take a moment to commend Jason “Warthog Roman, Jason Coene, Trevor “Midway” Schmidt, Mark “jESUIT” Cheben, the guys over at Surreal Media and all the other folks in this project on all of their hard work, vision and dedication to making our e-sports coverage even better through GameSense 2.0 and GameSense Live!

What we’re releasing today is a beta-test of these two applications, so please bear with us. Help us test it for bugs, layout considerations and any other issues. And please don’t forget to tell these folks if you think it’s as awesome as I think it is. Again, this is a BETA. We wanted to release it today so that we could test out all the features on it under load, and while the code is completed, there are always bugs in a major release, so we need your help to work them out.

Please report any bugs in the GameSense Forums, found here: http://www.gotfrag.com/portal/forums/39/

New GameSense 2.0 Features:

Where to find it: GameSense 2.0 is currently in beta and can be found on the normal GameSense page at: http://www.gotfrag.com/cs/stats/

As in the original, inside of GameSense™, you can find in-depth information on your favorite (or least favorite) players, teams and events. It provides detailed statistics based on official matches and events from tournaments around the world. How many Frags do they have? How many Aces? Who has the best +/-? Who has the worst? Who has the highest DAR? GameSense™ is the definitive source for the answers to these questions and many more.

- New Layout – Our new layout was developed by Surreal Media and condenses information display to make it much more readable and easier to find.
- GameSense 2.0 now tracks information on a round-by-round basis (the old system parsed matches into halves) which offers us and you a much more powerful way of looking at statistics.
- CS 1.6 and CS: Source are now in completely separate datasets
- Player vs. Player stats are now implemented
- Box Scores now show specific player information for many stats (i.e. errors, bomb plants, etc)
- Overflow damage is now tracked (i.e. if you frag someone with 1 health, and you hit them for 100 damage, that damage is now tracked as Overflow)
- Frag number per round is now tracked (previously we had only looked at entry frags), GameSense can now show you whether you got the 1st frag that round, the 5th, or the 9th. This is individually tracked, per team and adds the ability for “last man standing” stats.
- GameSense 2.0 now tracks total number of team attacks and self-attacks instead of just the frag. (now you can see how many times you stab a teammate to handicap him and bait him better)
- X vs X stats. We can now track stats for 2 vs 2 situations or 1 vs 4.
- Integration with GameSense Live! to stream live stats
- And many, many more. I’ve definitely forgotten to list many of the new features, so please make sure to post here or in the GameSense forums if you see something particularly cool you think everyone should know about. As with any stats system, you all are going to see things in our stats system and ways of interpreting it which we may have never thought of—we want to make sure we hear those and that all e-sports fans know about them as well.

GameSense Live! Features

Where to find it: You can access the GameSense Live! BETA from the top of the GameSense page (under Live Matches) by clicking on the “Live” link next to each match.

Please note that web text streaming is a protocol that can sometimes time-out. If you find that GS Live is not updating, make sure you do a forced refresh/reload (hit F5 on your keyboard) which may fix the issue.

- Live, streaming stats to you
- Across the top of the GameSense Live!, you’ll see match scores that are currently under way or have completed, which you can click on to see the current (or final) stats for that game in the Live! window.
- The GameSense Live window, in the bottom left, includes a live game log, which updates as the Live! window updates. Eventually it will also include GotFrag forum posts dedicated to each game.
- Offense or Defense (currently) is denoted under the team name.

Thanks for joining us in this beta, and we’re looking forward to your feedback!

Congratulations again to all of our staff and the GameSense project team in getting this beta out.
