All Games: WSVG Intel Summer Championships Final Results

By: Brian Johnson - Published July 09, 2006 at 2:54 PM EDT - Writer Archive
Day 4 of WSVG ISC ends crowning 5 champions. Which one of your favorite teams took home the title?

Counter-Strike 1.6 (Marc Turner)

The CS tournament moved along pretty smoothly and encountered a few surprise finishes / close calls along the way. Team 3D survived an early scare from d2x in their single elimination match against d2x and went on to place 9th-12th. The Brazilian pug g3x managed to have a very strong tournament sending multiple top tier teams into the lower bracket ultimately finishing 6th. Second place ESWC finishers Fnatic fell to Alternate Attax in the upper bracket and were knocked out of the tournament in the consolation finals by Complexity, granting them a 3rd place finish.

The Germans of Alternate Attax cruised through the upper bracket giving them a birth into the CS grand finals. The Americans of Complexity fell to Attax in the upper bracket finals only to win the consolation finals and try for redemption in the grand finals. In the end Complexity prevailed winning both finals matches and captured their first Dallas tournament title. Scores, demos and Gamesense Statistics here.

1st: United States Complexity $40,000 plus travel and lodging to the WSVG Finals
2nd: Germany Alternate aTTax $27,000 plus travel and lodging to the WSVG Finals
3rd: Sweden Fnatic $20,000

Quake IV (Nathan Coulter)

Could the Quake 4 tournament section of WSVG Dallas, be seeded any more perfectly for the top 16? Or did the seeds dictate the final placing of the tournament? Either way, the top 16 from seeds based on previous events and the final standings look surprisingly the same.

Alessandro "Stermy" Avallone had a great tournament. Finishing unbeaten throughout the upper rounds, he looked in control and a "sure thing" for winning it all. He put many of the top players in the world into the lower bracket, including Alexander "Ztrider" Ingarv (finished 3rd) who had upset Johan "toxic" Quick earlier in the tournament. Toxic did not give up and battled his way back through four rounds in the lower bracket, including a win over Johnathan "Fatal1ty" Wendel who finished 4th, to finalize his position on the championship stage.

Johan "toxic" Quick looked a new player on Sunday morning however, winning the both championship matches in very convincing fashion. He played very dominant, controlling the tempo of the game, and limiting stermy's ability to get power-ups.

1st: Sweden Johan "toxic" Quick $20,000
2nd: Italy Alessandro "Stermy" Avallone $15,000
3rd: Sweden Alexander "Ztrider" Ingarv $10,000 plus travel and lodging to the WSVG Finals
4th: United States Johnathan "Fatal1ty" Wendel $6,500 plus travel and lodging to the WSVG Finals
5th: United States Jason "socrates_" Sylka $4,500
6th: Sweden Magnus "fox" Olsson $3,750
7th: United States Mark "cl0ck" Lupiano $2,250
8th: United Kingdom James "TooGoood" Harding $1,500
9th - 12th: China Meng "RocketBoy" Yang $1,125
9th - 12th: United States Jared "cha0ticz" Cugno $1,125
9th - 12th: Netherlands Ivo "forever" Lindhout $1,125
9th - 12th: United States Rafik "LoSt-CaUsE" Bryant $1,125

13th - 16th: Sweden Pelle "fazz" Söderman $750
13th - 16th: United Kingdom Gareth "GaRpY" Marshall $750
13th - 16th: Sweden Jonas "OoZe" Gustafsson $750

Halo 2 (Travis Cosby)

This year's Halo 2 tournament lacked what everyone considers the best team in the world, Final Boss. Regardless, this tournament was full of excitement and skill; Str8 Rippin and XiT Woundz were able to answer the call for professional gamers. #13 probably cause toxic and stermy already won a wsvg event or came in 2nd at one and received the tickets to the finals then, so it gets handed down to the next people in the placings that don't already have tickets.

"Why did fat and ztrider get tickets to the finals when they came 3rd 4th? "

The other two players have already qualified for the finals, earning them their trip already, so the prize's filter down.

the dod finals match may have been intense, but the match you may not have seen was the pk vs. coL match in which coL capitalized on a crashed computer to send it to overtime and then the same guy's computer crashed in first half of OT as well, both times giving coL a capout and taking the win in OT. not coL's fault, but...they would have been 4th :) gg tho.
