With the GotFrag F.E.A.R. Invitational set to start this weekend, Trevor 'Midway' Schmidt takes a look at the competitors... ![]() Tournament Page | Rules | Schedule | Teams | Prizes | Newbie Guide | Video Tutorials Doctors seem like an almost sure fit for the number one spot. They won both the recent GGL online tournament and the Digitallife LAN tournament, both of which used Control and Capture the Flag (CTF) formats. Still, this new format could give teams that were a step behind (like TcS, Headshot, and Exigent) the chance to catch up and there is always the chance that a relatively unknown team will rise to the challenge. Conquer All combines two different formats, Control and CTF. Control uses deathmatch maps to capture three points. The downside is that each map is uneven, with different points having better armor or health packs. CTF has even maps, but a very slow play style as it's difficult to traverse the entire enemy defense twice, once into their base and once returning to your base. Conquer All uses Control’s capture points (five instead of three) and CTF’s maps. Still this happy merge won’t mean perfection for all the teams. Doctors Mark "wombat" Larsen Keith "keith" Hulenaar Ted "wiseguy" Georgoudakis Andrew "anomaly" Brock This team brings in the most gaming skill and experience from World Class Quake and CS player Wombat, to highly skilled wiseguy and anomaly. Coming in as the reigning top team after back to back wins in the GGL Online Qualifier and at the Digitiallife LAN event, they have the best odds heading into this event. It’s far from a lock though as recent roster changes have left some questions. Wiseguy recently replaced Crzg, who played with the team during both of those tournament wins. Wiseguy’s ability to pick up the game and hold down the fourth spot should determine if this team can three-peat. On top of that, practice could be a big question mark. This team hasn’t put in nearly the practice as some of the other teams, opting not to play in CAL's Control or CTF divisions, leaving questions of if rust will be an issue. Team central Slayers Corey "Relickan" Pare Neal "HB" Sisbarro Jeremiah "Ep1c" Bunker Jonathan “Gold” Bellew Hugely disappointed with their second place finish in the GGL Online Qualifier and third place finish at the Digitallife LAN, TcS retooled, cutting two of their four players and restructuring the team. The remaining players are HB and Ep1c, two of the most skilled players in FEAR. HB’s CPL Winter 2005 FEAR 1v1 title set him up as the top player in the game. On top of that, TcS recruited the other top 1v1 player, AndrasF. Still as a team they lacked the chemistry and teamwork to beat the other top teams. The new players of Gold and Relickan have a big name to live up to, but their ability to work with the established players on TcS will determine their fate. Still there 7-0 record in CAL FEAR CTF is a good baseline to show they should be in the hunt for the title. Watch for the rivalry between Doctors and TcS. TcS, to a certain extent, represents the older establish players who have been playing FEAR since it was released. Doctors on the other hand are the newcomers, who have come from other games to FEAR. This has created a pretty bitter rivalry and both teams don’t like each other very much at all. Page:
