It's never polite to bully a team, or teams in this case, but it must be stated. A few of the teams who came into this event with promise choked in the early stages of the event, proving that CAL doesn't mean much in FEAR. HOT is a new team to FEAR, but hold a certain arrogance over the community. As cocky as I found them, coming up with a hundred point deficit to Disposable Heroes tells me that your team is in a dire need of a retooling. Delta Force Revolution is a team with a record largely comprised of forfeit wins, and when you lose by almost a hundred points to an inactive team, you have some issues. Ninth seed may have been slightly high for dfr, but still, it was a good effort against a strong team. Fortius is one of FEAR's oldest teams and competitively most active; having competed in TWL, the Gamespot event, and CAL. They should have been neck and neck with Zerohour performance wise, and I'm not sure what the excuse was here as Zerohour made short work of Fortius in the early stages of the event. A bit more experience is needed I guess. OVERALL: Conquer All as a game type proved competition worthy. It creates a fairly even playing field for most teams and shows that even with a point deficit, you can still pull a win out of your hat; teams are rarely ever out of the game. While is it fundamentally flawed mechanically speaking, it's still quite a bit more fair than most of what FEAR has to offer, and was a great addition to the FEAR COMBAT mutliplayer product. It gave us a few great matches, and helped for an interesting event pound for pound. The Doctors and Team Central Slayers rivalry was renewed, a few teams were reinvigorated, and some of the more arrogant teams were taught a lesson; that competition is more than scheduling conflicts and forfeit wins. Overall, I'd say the event was successful. While I would have liked to have seen a lower bracket, or some of the European teams, which are stronger than a fair portion of North America's player base, we saw a great event none the less. Be sure to watch the Videos on Demand from the GotFrag TV broadcast, featuring Trevor 'Midway' Schmidt and myself. Also, keep your eyes open for Team Central Slayer's upcoming FEAR Duel Tournament as well as CAL season two, which may be continuing the Conquer All legacy. In the following days, I'll be posting interviews with some of FEAR's top competitors weighing in with their own opinions on the event, the community, and the Conquer All game type. Help keep FEAR running strong. There is always room for more competitive players and teams, and with it being completely FREE, how could you not give it a try? www.JoinFEAR.com |
