All Games: CZM vs Jibo in CPL Q3 Grand Finals

By: JP McDaniel - Published December 18, 2006 at 12:01 AM EST - Writer Archive
32 players have advanced to the double elimination round of the Quake 3 CPL Winter 2006 Championships.
The group stages have finished with few surprises moving onto double elimination play. In one of the most shocking events of the day, Mousesports' American representative and third place finisher at the WSVG Finals, Jason "socrates" Sylka, forfeited out of the event and opted to play the WCG Holiday Clash instead. A statement from Sylka should be released shortly. Onslaught's Texan-based Quaker Austin "etcz" Vandever lost to Shane "scar/rapha" Hendrixson in a three-mapper which ended in a one-sided game for Hendrixson on pro-nodm9. Girls 0f destruction's Swedish representative Therese "trito" Anderrson upset Check-Six manager Nick “Jebus” Borell to advance while the rest of her teammates weren't so lucky.

Day 2 sees potential second round matches between Sean "Daler" Price and Anton "Cooller" Singov, as well as Paul "czm" Nelson vs Vijal "viju" Patel. Price's last match vs Singov was at QuakeCon 2004 where Singov defeated Price on dm5 to capture third place. Patel will look to slow down Nelson's amazing play from day 1, stating that he hopes he picks hub verse him as it's his best map.

Scorebots
The CPL has set up mIRC channels for bots to run this weekend. They will be on only QuakeNet.

Brackets are way too unbalanced. The bottom half is much, much stronger than the top half. CZM and cooller are way too close to each other.

you're dumb....czm and cooller barely ever practice at all and didn't "practice" for this unless u consider playing for maybe a day or two practice.

they're top players because they are a level above in skill already and they'll only really need to start praticing when other players start being able to actually take them down with ease.

edit: btw i know cooller doesn't really practice, but still hes an amazing player and the fact that czm beat him with barely any playing for the past year is pretty amazing :)

czm has some kinda finger/arm teacher to energy harmonizing moves like u can see between the games, (or he just knows how to act by feeling)but your arm rising is maybe intuitive right for ur body, for video we just see u really had to concentrate.. ;)

n1 from cs scene u q3 man !! u did it!

great showing this year czm.Have fun with that 15,000 dollars.

пендос следи за базаро... а то бомба на голову упадет))

omg so stupid

Don't tell me about skill, i know that. It's very important turnament as for Cooler as for czm. Even they have not practice all year. They play hard for some weeks, that's enough to show a good result. And when some people said that one man won another without any practice, it makes me rofl.

P.S. I know my English is terrible, but i have no practice after studing it at school)))))))).

How do you guys know they did not practice? LOL no offense but the first thing you learn in gaming is they all practice and claim they do not. They all love to believe they are so great they can beat everyone without practicing. It's all about the image go fake name and play with your secret buddies then convince the masses you just walked in not touching the game for the last year. The people who are winning are practicing.

#43 most of them have lives. Yes, chances are they practised a little before the tourney, but no doubt they'd not have touched the game for quite a long time.

#47 czm wins are actually heavily based off of strategy. He doesnt even barely use rail as much as other pro players. You obviously didnt watch finals. He completely beat jibo by out strategizing him and making him scrape the whole fight. Im actually more of a fan of Coollers style of play and i find him more entertaining. CZM on the other hand is a robot. ;)

i think #43 is right, what responsable player would just think "well i haven't touched the game in a year, still let's go to CPL and win it".CZm had 2 weeks of practice before this - he said -but i'd say it was prolly some 10 H a day practice, that would probably get him in shape for the Tournament. And the line "i'm a god without practicing, i came here to win just because i'm superiour" is very common, if you wanna win you just practice
