The Championship Gaming Series has just updated their website with a FAQ that will answer many questions. The Championship Gaming Series is the leading global professional video game league that will televise competitions to over 100 million homes worldwide. The league will feature salaried professional players, large prizes and instant cash payouts. Teams composed of the best gamers from around the world will compete to name a 2007 World Champion The Structure Utilizing a new global league, the Championship Gaming Series will be separated into five major regions including North America, South America, an Australian/Asian/Middle East territory, and a Europe/Scandinavia territory. Each region will consist of several teams that include gamers specializing in several game genres and each team will be assembled and managed by its own General Manager. Each region will have a regular season or a tournament process to rank every team and the top 12 teams from around the world will be invited to compete in a Grand Slam tournament, determining who will move onto the World Championship in both singles and team matches. The Players To treat the competition as sport and the players as professional athletes, every professional player will receive a salary, with any player who wins a tournament or competition to be awarded an immediate purse. The Championship Gaming Series has planned media coverage from television services DirecTV, British Sky Broadcasting and STAR Television, reaching over 100 million viewers, with exposure on the web through sites like IGN.com, GotFrag.com and MySpace.com. The General Managers The General Managers will be responsible for scouting talent during the qualification process, and assembling the most competitive franchise possible. GM’s will be able to add, drop, and trade players throughout a season and will also be responsible for negotiating sponsorship agreements, organizing online and live player promotions, managing community and media relations, and overseeing the entire operations of their franchise. A complete job description will be forthcoming. Individuals interested in applying to become the General Manager of a Championship Gaming Series franchise should e-mail info@championshipgamingseries.com with contact information and a complete resume. The Games The Championship Gaming Series will feature professional PC and Next Generation console tournaments. The league has identified the initial three games that will be played and televised in all regions. The starting lineup will be: Counter-Strike: Source (PC) Dead or Alive 4 (Xbox 360) Project Gotham Racing 3 (Xbox 360) Requirements We have outlined the qualification process only for the North American region and will shortly announce the qualification process for South America, Australia/Asia/Middle East, UK, and Europe/Scandinavia. Please check back to this website for future announcements. North America: Qualifying for a North American team requires that a player lives/resides in either the United States or Canada. The qualification process is broken into two phases that leads to a draft that will lead to players being signed to one of six franchises in North America. Phase One: Online Qualifiers and Micro Events This first phase will create an initial pool of players who will be eligible for the North American region draft. Participants must be registered on championshipgamingseries.com and will be eligible to play in online tournaments or play in micro events that will take place throughout the US with prizes to be given to the winner of each contest. Winning an online qualifier, ranking high in the online ladders or winning a micro event doesn’t guarantee that a player will be signed to a franchise. However, it gives them entry into the North American Qualification Finals and will help seed and identify top players in the North American Qualification Finals. Phase Two: North American Qualification Finals This tournament puts the North American region’s best players against each other in a live tournament to identify the best gamers, highlight personalities, and build future stars. Phase Three: Team Draft Based on the results of the first two phases, General Managers will draft players for the six North American teams, with drafted players becoming salaried professional gamers. If a player is not initially drafted, they can maintain their league eligibility by participating in CGS online competitions. Phase Four: North American League Play The six teams will have a regular season of league play, with GM’s trading, dropping and adding players who maintain their eligibility. At the end of the season, the top four teams advance to a single elimination bracket. A North American Champion will be named, and together with the runner up, will represent North America in the international Championship Gaming Series Grand Slam.
