All Games: GaRpY and HELL talk from i30

By: Rod Breslau - Published April 07, 2007 at 6:53 PM EDT - Writer Archive
GotFrag.com's Rod "Slasher" Breslau and Liam "crow" Crowley speak with British Dignitas Quake 4 players Gareth "GaRpY" Marshall and Aaron-Anton "HELL" Jones after the the first major day of play at the i30 LAN.

Marshall and Jones head into the final day of play at the i30 tournament LAN both undefeated and looking for blood. The British teammates knocked both German top stars Oleg "d1ablo" Kogut and Marcel "k1llsen" Paul, respectively, into the lower bracket. Marshall made quick work of Kogut taking two straight maps including a 22 to 2 stomping on Phrantic. Meanwhile Jones took down tournament favorite Paul in three maps with convincing scores on both winning maps while only losing by 2 on Placebo Effect. Paul came into the event being seeded seventh while Jones was seeded 4 spots behind him.

In tomorrow's quarterfinals, Marshall will square off against number one seed Alessandro "Stermy" Avallone while Jones has to go up against the Polish youngster Maciej "av3k" Krzykowski.

Both players discuss their thoughts of the event thus far, their wins over the Germans, and their thoughts heading into the big games tomorrow.

Interview with Gareth "GaRpY" Marshall conducted by Rod "Slasher" Breslau.

What are your thoughts of the first day at i30?

United Kingdom Gareth "GaRpY" Marshall: Well the day started off great games actually started on time for once, unlike another competitions I have attended all of last year. A couple of technical problems but other than that its been a great day all round.

Is there anything else at the i30 event worth checking out?

Of course there is jeez :P. There are loads of other competitions going on, and a lot of shootouts and other things for you to win from harddrives to full PC systems. With all the finals of each games being on the stage so cheering on the teammates ;). Just hope we can do it in the Quake 4 :D.

How does it feel to defeat d1ablo rather handily?

Feels good that I got my game back after the first and started to play my own game which is to control and aim. Once I had that he didn't really stand much of a chance. Plus also my teammate beating him 45-0 online helped my confidence a bit :).

What's your mindset going into your game verse the number one seed Stermy? Do you have any game plan for this match?

I am well looking forward to my game against Stermy tomorrow, I know deep down that I haven't got anything to lose and he's got everything :P. So that will also play on his mind when I start to take the lead :). Also I have been watching him play today and tbh like most players say about him, hes all aim no brain :P.

What map do you think you'll pick against him, and why?

Well tbh a wise choice will be to pick Phrantic, just because there is no rail and without a rail you have half won the game already :).

What are your thoughts about the new 1.4.1 patch? Are the new changes to the movement and crouchsliding good or should they go back?

I like the new patch, there are a lot of ramps and little bugs in the game at the moment, but over all I think it's a step in the right direct. The hit boxes and everything else are sweet.

What do you think of the decision to use the new patch in this event? Have there been any complications or controversies thus far with the new patch?

Not really been any problems whatsoever with the patch at the event, other than forever moaning about it of course :). But, when doesn't he moan? :P

I know Gareth, I know. Good luck tomorrow man!

Thanks foo! :D
