All Games: Jason Lake explains CGS schedule

By: Marc Turner - Published June 22, 2007 at 12:06 AM UTC - Writer Archive
In an exclusive interview with GotFrag, Jason Lake, the General manager for LA's compLexity, explains the CGS broadcast schedule and point system.
Jason Lake, General Manager of the CGS franchise compLexity, answered a few questions GotFrag had about the upcoming CGS season and how it would be broadcast for the the fans at home.

Can you tell us the schedule of the regular season?

The regular season is slated to begin fairly rapidly on June 27 (next Wednesday) and will conclude with the finals on July 30. It’s going to be an incredibly exciting summer with nonstop action. The players will all arrive in LA this weekend and be settled in to their apartments. All the players will be living in the same community, which is a very nice one and a short walk from the beach as well.

How many times will teams play each other? How do the playoffs work?

Every franchise will play a total of twelve regular season games.  The teams are broken up into two geographic regions, the East (Chicago, New York and Carolina) and the West (Dallas, LA, San   Francisco).  Every franchise will play each team in their geographic region a total of three times and the teams in the opposite region twice each. Standings from the regular season will be used to seed the top four teams in the playoffs. The entire schedule is below:

What matches will be televised and which will not? Can people without DirecTV follow and watch CGS?

The great news is the coverage available to the community: There will be a mixture of live broadcasts on DirecTV Channel 101 and some live broadcasts on www.thecgs.com. The second week of the regular season will solely be streamed live to the web so everyone can tune in. Weeks 3-6 will be aired on DirecTV channel 101 and be broadcast live.

Is there any way to come to the studio and watch?

Free tickets are available to every night the CGS will be broadcasting.  To get your tickets go here http://www.hollywoodtickets.com/ShowPages/ChampionshipGamingseries.asp

How will the point scoring work for the league?

In my opinion, this is where it really gets interesting. Teams will earn points based on the cumulative performance of each squad, making each round of every game important. Every point will contribute to the overall team score. After each squad competes head to head, the team with the most points wins.

FIFA: Each goal that a player scores is one point for the team. Any overtime or shootout goals will count as one point per goal.

Project Gotham Racing 3 (PGR3): Five points for the team are earned for a first place finish, three points for second place and one point for third.

Dead or Alive 4 (DOA4): (Men & Women): Each round won is worth one point. The first player to win five rounds takes the DOA match. There is a maximum of nine rounds per game.

Counter-Strike: Source (CS): Each round is worth one point for the winning team. The first team to win ten rounds wins the match, but all 18 rounds are played out and every round counts towards the team score.

Overtime
If in any given match both teams finish with equal total scores, then an overtime format will determine the match winner.

FIFA: Shootout
PGR: One lap
DOA: One round
CS: One round
