All Games: Kritikal of Dignitas Interviewed

By: Michael Radford - Published June 27, 2007 at 3:40 PM EDT - Writer Archive
The new British hope or pretenders to the throne? Dignitas are the UK's ESWC representatives for 2007 at 4k's expense but where do they go from here? Michael Radford asks Luke "Kritikal" Green.

First of all congratulations on qualifying for ESWC. For the benefit of our overseas friends, why don't you tell us about yourself?

Hi my names Luke "KritikaL" Green, im 19 years old and play for Team-Dignitas.

Few people outside the UK probably know about Team Dignitas. Could you tell us a bit about your team and their history.

Well the team has 4 players from the c4u which was formed just before christmas this year, and when WoW TBC came out I and Sulph went to play that, whilst wez, wilzOOO and Reality went onto join Dignitas. After shg they didnt feel that redh and aleski were the players for them so they asked wez and myself to join as the new 4th and 5th players. Not long into having our team setup wez told us that he would have exams over the period of ESWC and some other tournaments, so we had to find a replacement. That's when Mx joined and hes filled the slot perfectly.

As mentioned above, you just qualified for the ESWC. How did you rate your chances before the tournament bearing in mind 4k's lineup had yet to attend a LAN?

We really fancied our chances, we knew that we had prepared to win the tournament, is was just a matter of how we played on the day. We obviously knew 4kings were a huge favorite going into the LAN finals, but that didn't really bother us, we had studied their demos before the LAN and we saw they had some weaknesses, and that boosted our confidence.

The first day went very well for you, losing just eleven rounds over three group games and then two convincing wins over eom in the semi-final. Was it just "one of those days"?

Hmm, good question. I dont think it was one of those days we played well on the Saturday, but I think we play consistantly that well, and I would expect us to play that well all the time. It helped being seeded highest in the group which meant we could pick which team we wanted to go, so that may have helped us a lot, but generally we felt dominant on the Saturday.

4kings struggled past overtime in their semi-final. Did that give you confidence or affect your preparation for the final in any way?

Yeah big time, I remember winning the 1st half on the 2nd map vs eom, and someone coming over and telling us that overtime had just won the first map vs 4kings, this was a HUGE confidence boost. We had previously played overtime in the group stages and we played exceptional vs them and really dominated that game, so we felt if overtime could do that much damage vs 4kings, we would really stand a great chance of winning.

Having had such an easy ride through the first day of competition, you faced a much tougher task in the final. Can you talk us briefly through the game from your point of view?

The first day seemed very easy but I think that was cause of the way we played :P, the final wasn't THAT much tougher than the overtime game. I just felt that we weren't playing as good in the final, when it suddenly hit us on dust2 that we could POSSIBLY lose this. I didn't feel we deserved to lose that tournament, and neither did the rest of us. Somehow I don't know how after going 11-4 down with morale really low we suddenly just woke up and snapped out of the 3rd gear that we were playing in. Train was played exactly the same as what we would have played like on the Saturday and it really showed the standard within this team.

Given the history between WilzOOO and 4k the victory must have been even sweeter for him.

Hahah, well there's history between myself and 4k as well. I have always made a rivalry between my teams and 4k so it was real sweet, but with wilzOOO and Rattlesnake OFFICIALLY getting asked to join 4kings 4-5 weeks prior to the event, to then beat them was a real relief for not just them 2 that they made the right decision, but for the team as well because we now know they aren't thinking and contemplating that move to 4k.

Before the event a lot of people in the UK were already saying you were the best team in the country. Is that confirmed now and do you think 4k's stranglehold on the UK scene is finally over?

Quite possibly, either way whatever 4k do from now until cs dies, they will be a top team in the UK, and it will only take one tournament like wcg quals where they play well to change everything and turn it all upside down again. So we have to keep on our toes for sure to maintain this top spot, and they need to work hard to get back ontop because we definately will not let this #1 spot slip away from us easily.
