All Games: ESWC 2007 CS Day 2 Melee

By: Luis Mira - Published July 05, 2007 at 8:39 PM EDT - Writer Archive
Day two of the Electronic Sports World Cup takes place this Friday with almost forty matches being disputed.
Day one had its biggest surprise in the early elimination of the German team mousesports, who lost its place in the next stage to Dignitas and TR.Victory due to round difference.

Another surprise was the poor campaign made by the Swedish Begrip Gaming squad, who after performing well in the national qualifier, wasn't able to win more than one match, leaving France with fifth placing achieved, well beyond what many were hoping for.

In Group D, the Ukrainian talent Ioann "Edward" Sukhorev proved a strong figure in the international scene by helping his team secure qualification to the next stage with a handful of convincing perfomances.

Day two kicks off with Ninjas in Pyjamas and eSTRO being the main favourites to secure qualification in group E. Nonetheless, the American side Turmoil is eager to prove that it belongs to the world's best and will try its best to cause an upset.

In group F, NoA and wNv.cn are the ones with the most chances of going through. On the other hand, ID Gaming, who will attend the event with the current Frankfurts-Finest member Fatih "gob b" Dayik, and defusekids are the names that will try to surprise and take one of the two places that are up for grabs.

Group G is the group where nothing seems certain. Although Made in Brazil, Meet Your Makers and H2k.Thermaltake are the names most of the people put in the next phase, GoodGame showed today in the stage match that is capable of doing great things and that it may not be taken lightly. Moreover, the Indonesian squad XcN is ready to cause an upset, just like it did in last year's WCG event.

In Group H, 69°N-28°E and ALTERNATE aTTaX are the main favourites to move on to the next stage. The Finnish team comes into the event on the back of a first place place achieved in the WSVG tournament, while aTTaX comes from a good campaign in the EPS league. Many are looking forward to see in action the Australian squad Immunity and the Danish team Global Gaming, who impressed in the local ESWC qualifier.
