All Games: ESWC 2007 CS Day 3 Melee

By: Luis Mira - Published July 06, 2007 at 3:19 PM EDT - Writer Archive
The third day of the Electronic Sports World Cup takes place this Saturday with only sixteen teams left fighting for all the glory.
Just like what had happened during the first day, the second one was filled with surprises. The American side Turmoil proved a strong figure and eliminated that which seemed to be a strong favourite in this competition, eSTRO.

In Group F, wNv.cn was surprised in the matches against ID Gaming and defusekids, which made the Chinese team sit in third place when all the matches were over. ID Gaming, who is attending the event with the Frankfurts-Finest member Fatih "gob b" Dayik, is the team to join NoA in the next stage.

Group H saw ALTERNATE aTTax almost losing the qualification to the second group phase, but a 18-12 victory over the Finnish team 69°N-28°E made it secure the enough rounds to move on in the competition.

The second group stage will now begin with sixteen teams inserted in four different groups.

Group A is apparently the perfect group for Ninjas in Pyjamas and NoA to move on in the ESWC. However, Dignitas has already impressed in this competition and will try to cause an upset in another giant, while the French team showed in the game against fnatic that it may not be taken lightly.

In Group B, ALTERNATE aTTaX and fnatic are the main favourites to secure the qualification, despite the difficulties the current EPS champion faced to be at this stage. The Ukrainian team A-gaming, following a wave of good results in several tournaments held in Eastern Europe, is now eager to prove that it has what it takes to move on to the bracket stage. As for Turmoil, the American side impressed in the WSVG tournament, and this event is just the confirmation of its talent. Turmoil will try its best to secure a place among the ESWC's top 8 eights, just like coL and 3D did last year.

Group C will embrace a Russian clash between Virtus.Pro and Begrip Gaming, two teams that have high hopes for this tournament and that have already showed in this tournament what they are capable of. Made in Brazil comes into this phase on the back of a solid campaign in that which was considered the death group of the first stage. Dayik proved to be ready to help ID Gaming scale great heights in this event and will try his best to cause another upset at this stage.

Group D seems to be the strongest of them all and the one where nothing is 100% certain. PGSPokerStrategy.cc has high hopes for this tournament following a period away from the main stages and losing at this phase is not part of its plans. 69°N-28°E comes from a good campaign in the WSVG tournament and is eager to grab the number one status. Meet Your Makers performed well in the first group stage and was even able to split points with the current ESWC champion, Made in Brazil. As for TR.Victory, the Chinese team is the only Asian squad left in the tournament and has the urge to make people forget wNv's supremacy over the Chinese territory.
