On the CAL website, a CAL admin made a post alleging that the CPL was closing. CAL quickly responded by refuting these allegations and promising legal action. Following CPL’s 2006 Winter Event, the CPL launched its 2007 World Tour with yet-to-be-released World in Conflict for PC and F.E.A.R. on XBOX 360 sponsored by Sierra. With lackluster attendance and minimal interest from the community in the World Tour and their lightly attended and G7 boycotted Winter event, the once mighty CPL has fallen on harder times. The news post on CAL’s webpage hit on several rumors that had been floating around the community in recent months, namely that Moncivalles had been fired and that the CPL was almost purchased. The man making the allegations, Bloemheuvel, is listed as an Operations Manager on the CAL website and has helped run CPL BYOC tournaments in the past. Moncivalles said no comment when asked about the posting. He still remains listed on the CPL page as the Online Store Director and on the CAL page as the Commissioner. Also, GotFrag has not been able to reach CAL , CPL, or Allen for a comment. However in a statement posted on CAL’s website, CAL refuted the allegations and made it clear that Allen, Moncivalles, and Hollingsworth are still employed by CPL. They also are looking into legal remedies. “While Chris Moncivalles is no longer CPL's Commissioner, both Mike Allen and Thomas Hollingsworth have not been terminated as the e-mail insinuates. Also Chris still has his CPL e-mail account, manages the CPL store and is the commissioner of CAL. Unfortunately, we cannot comment beyond this as this is a legal issue now and our legal counsel will pursue this matter to the full extent of the law.” When Bloemheuvel was asked as to why he posted the story he cited a lack of communication between CAL and the CPL as his reason for the posting. “I posted it because we've known this generally for about two weeks, without any idea of what would be in our future,” said Bloemheuvel. “Angel basically stopped talking to everyone and just left us waiting in limbo. We just wanted to make CAL work. But with Angel refusing to communicate with everyone, we weren't given a fair chance. So, I decided to just take the fall for it, make it all public, and hopefully force Angel into an official statement so people could move on from there.” Furthermore, Bloemheuvel said that he received the information from various CAL and CPL staff members and he stands by the accuracy of his posting. On the next page is the full text of the posting, and a screen shot of the post can be seen HERE. Page:

Go Martijn, go! He's our man, if he can't do it no one can! However I've spoken to a credible source that the developers behind CAL will be taking down the information from the CPL servers and putting them on new ones. Not to mention a name change is in order.
I think we all saw the downfall here anyways.
No one will attend the next CPL anyways.
No one attended the last one either.
#8, well if they picked up cod4 as the main game and had a good prize pot, it most def would have an amazing turnout :P
What I stated was as close to the truth as we’re ever going to get it seems as Angel still refuses to make any statement towards the actual content of my message aside from it not being as “ominous as the unauthorized message presumes it to be.”
Though I will forever protect my sources, I assure you I was at no point hacked, at no point illegally entered the site they gave me access to (d’oh) and it surely is not a hoax.
Martijn
Every good things have an ending. The question now is "What will be the next static world big event in USA?"
the outdoors?
I would have liked to participate in CPL before it dies...
Find the tapes, there must be tapes...
Call the Washington Post, they'll clear this up.
which sucks :(
It's just amazing that so many people have given him a chance and been willing to throw money at him without consequence. It makes me wonder what would happen if someone did it and didn't let their personal greed or ego get in the way.
i'm goin to start usin "CPL" whenever i mean "LOL"
I won't say much, but of all the people in eSports to criticize in this way, I have no idea why he picked Charlie. Charlie Plitt (and Eric Ping, for that matter) is one of the few gems in eSports; someone who really does things the right way, who sees the big picture, and has consistently put the gamers as his top priority. The man created a new set of expectations and standards for professional gaming online, and having spoken with him on dozens of occasions, I find that the phrase "hell on earth" belongs absolutely nowhere near the name Charlie Plitt.
This may very well be a good piece of muckraking by Martijn, but to me the false claims he's making about Charlie Plitt are a bigger deal than the potentially true claims he's making about the collapse of the CPL.
I don't know about anyone else, but I think that the slandering one of the most professional, well-intentioned people in pro gaming today in Charlie Plitt stood out to me more than the rest of the post, which is as surprising as it is verifiable; that's to say, not very.
The CPL has been dead for a long time now -- lets move on folks.
Charlie is one of the great minds and assets in North American eSports, along with the entire CEVO staff. He is one of the most realistic and down-to-Earth people you'll ever have the pleasure of talking to, especially when you consider his position in his company.
After seeing that portion of the post, it brought it and its authors credibility to near-zero.
And #43, no it didn't.
