Taking some time to answer a few questions from the forums, GotFrag's President, Lee Chen, chimes in on what's in store for GRT and more... ![]() The first GotFrag Revival Tour Tournament was a lot of fun for everyone, including the GotFrag staff. We debuted some new types of interaction with the community and one of those was a series of official forum threads in which GotFrag TV interacted, in real time, with readers on-air during the broadcast. In the thread GRT #1: Ask Midway and jESUIT , there were a few questions asked that I would have liked to answer but didn't get a chance to on air before the finals started. Thought I'd make a quick blog post following on the end of GRT1 to answer them... #186 pointman007 - question, Whose the sexiest Gotfrag staff member? thanks This is obviously the most important question to answer. I'm going to have to go with someone who doesn't work with us anymore, bootman. #194 EricRB - what does lee think of source? does he think 1.6 or source is better? They're both great games. I think 1.6 is better, but that's probably because I started out playing it. I think both games have great communities, and there's great competition around both. We're doing the GotFrag Revival Tour because all of us at GotFrag think that there's alot of 1.6 action in North America today which deserves some attention. Not to take anything away from what anyone else is doing here, just that we started GotFrag on 1.6, and we feel like the game deserves some renewed attention from us. Which leads me to the next question... #196 - break17 - Long question: 1st I will say this: you guys have done an excellent job this weekend with the tournament in general but more importantly, for me at least, the GotFragTV coverage and matchcasting. Obviously GotFrag is very influential in the Counter-Strike and gaming community as a whole. That being said, is there a possibility of GotFrag taking the reigns in a sense and using its influence to bring more attention to the North American gaming community by hosting a large international LAN event with numerous games (the usual CS, CSS, maybe Quake or something, etc) -- along with possibly some of the MLG games? I think it'd be a great opportunity to bring the international teams back to North America for an excellent tournament especially with the (crappy) death of CPL. I think it'd be a great opportunity as well to do what Midway has been promoting, bring the CS and CSS community together under 1 flag. This may not be exactly correct place for this type of suggestion/question, but I think it's definitely something that needs to be addressed as the NA scene IS lacking and just being overshadowed by the Europeans. Thoughts? 1st, thanks for the compliment. A lot of hard work went into preparing, covering and broadcasting the tournament. There's still work to be done (VODs, post event coverage and the like) and I know that we all appreciate the compliment. To the meat of your question, like I just said, we're doing the GRT series because we, and MLG, believe that the Counter-Strike community is a great place to be. Your question is a great one, but I think time will tell on that. We can't do this overnight--with the PC esports scene in a bit of disarray following the back-to-back closures of WSVG and CPL, we have some work ahead of us to prepare and build the live event scene to a place where it's ready for lots and lots of PC games in it. Major League Gaming (MLG) runs a great series of open console events which get 10,000+ attendees. It's not only very stable, it's growing tremendously fast. The PC side of the equation is GotFrag. So you'll see some exciting announcements from us and our parent company, MLG, in the coming months. #199 Balla - What happened to gotfrag prime and what's going on with that? Great Question Balla. To be blunt, it fell off our radar. Following on our acquisition by MLG, and then the tournament season kicking off in 2007, then all the fallout as leagues closed and things shook up into 2008, we... I forgot about it. It needs some attention and it will be getting some in the coming months. We haven't finalized our plans for it, but there will be some changes coming. #200 - dLw_ - I was wondering.. When is it a better time to use ur silencer on M4 , then unsilenced m4.. ? I always went silenced. IMO, It's easier to control your recoil. And that means more rounds on target. An M4 silenced is perfectly capable of fragging someone at range with one headshot. And every time that I switched modes, someone fragg'd me. But I'm a washed up has-been... or never-was, so you probably want to get some more expert advice ;p #125 Ross- I know this is the first installment of GRT, however...will teams current performance and teams using ringers. Will this affect who you invite to GRT2? Also, would you ever give the thought of setting up a tournament of the same capacity of lower tier up and coming teams allowing a team who is in lower tier leagues have a chance to play with the pros? Yep, absolutely, and Yes.. You'll note that in our GRT2 announcement, we expanded it to a total of 32 teams who will participate. Who gets invited will be announced in the coming weeks. Stay tuned here! #151 noto - will gotfrag start to cover cal? One thing that I hope you noticed around our GotFrag Revival Tour coverage was just how much there was. We put up over 20 pieces of content, including interviews, player's to watch, the Melee, live game-sense stats and a couple of GotFrag aim_maps (which you should really check out if you haven't yet). Then there was the live stream from GotFrag TV and all the post-event content, including this little Q&A, which has yet to go up. My point in this little bit of self-congratulation is that this is how we want to do coverage. There's a tremendous amount of work that goes into our production. What's always been frustrating for us has been that we don't always get the access we need to bring you this depth and breadth of coverage. It's nothing against the Tournament or League organizers, their focus is on running the events. But with ESS as a partner, we're able do both of these things at the same time. Run great events, and cover them the way we've always wanted to... So give you the short answer, sure, absolutely we'll cover CAL, CEVO or any other league. But we need cooperation to make coverage happen. Logs, HLTV, demos, matches played on time and lots of other things. YOU as a player in a league are really the only people can make that happen. I mean, even if an admin tells you to upload demos to GotFrag, you're the only one who can actually do that. #159 turboturtle - rate lee's sexyness on a scale of 1-10. ;) Infinity. <3 turboturtle. On that note, remember to tune in to the GotFrag Revival Tour #2, May 31st and June 1st!. Good game, good luck and see you next time... Lee |
