The new players, James “Wilzooo” Wilson and Eliot “Wez” Welsh, had big boots to fill but they have lived up to the high standards that their predecessors had set and maybe even a little bit more. Under the tactical leadership of Sam “RattlesnK” Gawn and with Marc “Mangiacapra” Mangiacapra as the heart of the team at last the UK has a team that will undoubtedly make an impact on the world scene. They ploughed through all in their path and even when pitted against an in-form fnatic they managed to come through the other side as victors. Michael “ODEE” O’Dell hasn’t put a foot wrong with his picks since he took over and has every right to be delighted with the way things went. ![]() Certainly not bad in terms of performance as they showed everyone that, despite a dip in recent form, when the big games come around they will push any team. But the side has now been picked apart with Quint “Blaze” Spierenburg and Milan “Xertion” Veeger being drafted into Berlin Allianz and the rest of the players now operating as part of the taxi scheme. It has still not been confirmed whether the side will continue, perhaps drafting in some old friends, or whether they will move into teams individually. Either way it is the end of an era and one of the greatest Source line-ups ever assembled is no more. ![]() A player who has been a victim of circumstance more so than most, he missed the first draft by being six weeks too young and has been in some top teams that have spectacularly folded through no fault of his own. How good it is then to see him playing exceptionally well throughout the tournament and being drafted as the first CSS player name out the hat for London Mint. As a player he has made no secret of his desire to play for one of the CGS franchises and left a malfunctioning Guns 4 Hire to play with London Mint at this event. It looks like he made the right decision given the outcome. ![]() Why this player isn’t one of the ones that was retained by Berlin is a mystery to most people. During their CGS matches he was easily the most consistent player and constantly made an impact when he had an AWP in his hand, most of the people who follow the European scene were at a loss when the decisions were made. Given his clear ability he won’t struggle to find a top team to slot into, but people who have played in the CGS and had the luxury of a wage for playing may well find it difficult to motivate themselves. Certainly this has been the case with some of the players so far, so let us hope he doesn’t follow in their footsteps. Page:
